I'm considering the purchase of an HS Precision rifle. Does anyone have personal experience with one? Recommendations?

Thanks very much.

You could always save yourself some money and just buy a Remington in the caliber you wanted & buy a HS Presicion Stock. And then have the Barrel recrowned & walla $$$$$ saved for scope and Ammo. Just a thought.

my buddy used to work there during college and has said nothing but good things about the place and products.

Sorry ---but comparing a crap Remington to a HS----is like saying you can turn a Yugo into a Mercedes-----just ain't happening.

My buddy has an HS in .270WSM that is a tackdriver----fit, finish and machining are second to none---a bit on the heavy side-----he's talking about trading it off----mainly because of the weight and that he already has a custom ultralight in .270Wby.

I just wish I had that kind of money---I get a sinking feeling spending the money on a Citori or Sako----let alone on one of these uber dollar custom jobs.

No offense but that's a poor analogy. A good gunsmith can take a Remington 700 and turn it into a rifle equal to or better than a HS Precision, Robar, AI, McBros, etc.

True the receiver, aftermarket match barrel, new stock and bedding job will turn a Remington 700 into a superb rifle. Of course, after all is said and done, you will have spent quite a bit of money, which will make the job cost as much as an HS, Robar, AI, etc.

Yeah, the Yugo to Mercedes comparison is a bit extreme.
My used 700 LTR in .308 is fantastic. Someone had obviously tweeked the trigger, it's about 2 pounds and very crisp, and the accuracy is fantastic. It also has an H-S stock (factory stock on the LTR) so that helps too.
I suppose the H-S might be slightly more accurate (it's hard to beat 3/8" groups at 100 yards with a 4X), but the 700 LTR is no Yugo.
P.S. Please help!
Who makes a good drop in laminate wood stock for a heavy barreled 700?
I'm looking to add a little weight.
Does any know who makes the laminate stock for the 700 VLS?

Rugerfreak i am guessing by your name that your Bias anyways. Please be open minded to what others are looking for. I was merely making a suggestion. And ocabj is very correct when saying a good smith could build a rifle from a remington 700 action, and make it out shoot a HS. As far as any old CRAP Remington, LOL, im pretty sure any old Crap remington would shoot with a ruger out of the box. But like i said. by your name your probably a little Bias anyways, so i can overlook that. We all have our favorites. HS Precision is a great rifle for $2,100.00 no doubt about it. Now a break down of what i was trying to say.

Remington PSS .308(or caliber of choice = $700.00(roughly)
HS Precision Stock PST25F = $495.00
HD Rifles Gunsmithing (True action, bolt , chamber, install and crown barrel.) =$325.00 www.hdrifle.com
Leupold 3.5x10x40mm M1LR = $750.00 (Premiere Reticles)
Harris Bipod $60.00
TOTAL = $2,330.00.
This is only a vague description. I mean you could buy a 4.4x14x40 Nikon with Mil-Dot off Impact Guns for $279.00 and save yourself $$471.00. Its all in what yoiu want.

If you add the same scope with the HS rifle and BiPod your at $2,910.00.

England, this is nothing more than a suggestion of another route you can go. You won't go wrong with the HS Precision as it will probably out shoot you. Oh and Rugerfreak, as long as we both like guns and like to shoot, i'll shoot along side of you any day no matter what brands we shoot!!:)

I've tried the break-down model from HS. If the one you want shoots anywhere near as well as the one I tried, you'll be just fine. The HS rifles aren't my first choice, but that doesn't mean that I don't like them or unwilling to own one.
