Today I've been reminiscing about the accommodations I've used over the last 50 years of deer hunting.Every thing from a tent trailer in winter to cabins, motels and B&Bs.The first overnight was in a small cabin with an oversize furnace. After roasting in the top bunk I climbed down and slept on the cool cement floor. The B&B was great,Breakfast to order, pie sent along for lunch,Wine and snacks in the evening and hang my deer in a shed in the backyard.I met a guy there who would spend Saturday and Sunday touring camps with poker games.Sunday evening he would show up at the B&B and regale us with his gambling stories, stay overnight, hunt on Monday and go back to work.I'm sure others here have interesting stories as well.(Not the "What happens here stay's here" kind).

Here's my hunting camp. Cool thing is I live in it year round...

Ten years ago I got tired of the drawins, public areas, and outfitter takeovers. I found 45 acres of timber with six tillable bottomland acres for about 60% of what rec land was selling for. It was a scrape and the cleanup took four years but now I have a cabin with a bathroom, kitchen, bunkroom, and even tv. Me, my two boys and two nephews have had many great "deer camps" as well as lots of fun improving the area. Now, to manage the local herd to help it rebound from the ehd, blue tongue, and cwd. We have planted six acres of varying food plots for the past nine years and have taken several 150 plus class bucks.
It is not beyond the reach of the "working man". I looked for five years and found it listed in a small town paper.
Best of all, less than an hour from home.
Not bragging.....encouraging.

Our hunting camp/lodge is a 100+ year old farm house. Has all the amenities, 2 full baths, laundry, kitchen, 5 bedrooms, TV/movie room, trophy room, wine cellar, and much much more. You might say it's been re-purposed to meet out hunting needs and wants.

And somehow I bet it has those awesome cabinets you posted in a long ago thread where you had your reloading gear using recessed tracks............. ;)

Elk camp usually looks something like this:

Sometimes we get snow:

But it's always cozy inside with the wood stove:

The hanging tree gets full sometimes, depending on how many tags are in camp:

Even cow elk are big critters:

Cold beer and warm fires:

Is it elk season yet?

It is a lot of work, especially if you have to pack up and move all the gear several thousand miles, but a cozy tent camp during hunting season is a very rewarding experience.
