I can't decide...Help!!

Okay. I can't decide on which pistol I want to buy next. I am looking at either.
1-Springfield Loaded 1911 PX9151L or PX9154L
2-Springfield XD-40 4" Service XD9102HC

Money is an issue, but not the overall factor.

I forgot to add what I'm gonna use it for. It will mostly be a range gun and informal plinker. I will also carry it in my vehicle when I travel. That's about it. If I needed something really small, I've got my wife's Sig P230. Currently in the stable I have a P89, Sig P230, Buckmark Std. I will also eventually have both of the guns mentioned, it is more of a which should I buy first sort of deal. Unlike some folks, I like tupperware and steel. My father reloads and already has the set up for .45 but .40 would be no problem.

I have a nice polymer pistol which has made a convert of me to the utility of these kinds of guns (my Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro). Mine is 100% reliable and the polymer definately has advantages over steel. Of course I've heard great things about the XD and the couple times I've had a chance to shoot them they were incredibly comfortable guns.

However, I would definately say get the 1911 first. I have a cheap low end Charles Daly 1911 and I love it. As much as I now like polymer, I love my 1911 much more. For a carry gun I'd say it is a toss up (both have strong advantages, at least in a lighter weight alloy 1911), but for a range and car/home defense gun I'd definately get the 1911 first (then get the XD or whichever polymer pistol you want next).

Alrighty guys. I think I'm gonna go with a 1911 and I went to some of my local dealers and found two guns. Don't laugh at me now, but I found two RIA. One was the full size, the other is the Officer's size. They seem to be very nice guns. I am definitely impressed with the quality of the arms. He had a used RIA full size that he let me shoot and compare to his SA stainless GI range gun. For the price, I feel the RIA is just as bit as good as the SA. It wasn't exactly as I was looking for, but the price differential is huge! What do you guys think. Full size, Officer's size with bull barrel or wait and get a SA.

My next pistol purchase is going to be a loaded springer just as soon as they come out with one configured like my SS Compact Kimber. Only without that damnedable external extractor and Series II garbage.

Hint... hint... Springfield Armory you could sell a lot of those........

I have an older full size SA 1911, great gun but a little picky about what it eats. My SA Champion is the loaded model. Shoots great, but does have a FTF sometimes when shot a lot. A quick cleaning resolves it though.

As far as the XD goes, I have the 40 sub compact, service and tactical. The service model failed to feed one time due to a bent mag. The tactical did not like fp bullets, switched to rnfp and it likes those fine.

The service model has been through about 3000 rounds more or less with only the one mag problem. The tactical has never had a feed problem since the bullet change. The subcompact has been fired about 500-600 times with no feed problem using both fp and rnfp.

Pull trigger, go bang. Pull trigger, go bang. I like that. A good smith could tune the 1911s for me I know, but the XDs don't seem to need it.

My $.02 worth.
