I have been looking for a nice small carry revolver latley. All of my carry guns have been full size semi's and revolvers, from Glock 20's, 1911's and S&W 3 and 4 inch 629's. Well I have been eyeing this little Taurus 617 357 mag. Its got about a 2 inch barrel 7 shot cylinder finished in a matte stainless. The rear sight is just a groove in the top strap. This thing is a joy to carry. I fired it using some Winchester 145 grain silvertips and some blazer 38's. Both of these performed great. I had no problem holding 3-4 inch groups at 20 yards, much better than I thought it would be.
The fit and finish on this revolver is great. I am now hooked on these little compact revolvers, I wish I had tried them sooner.

I carry it in a Uncle Mikes #2 IWB right now. It all but disappears in it. I will look for other holsters as I can but this one is great.
The cylinder goes below the beltline so its not digging in and helps retain it. The only part above the belt is the small grip, and its pushed in tight so there is absolutly no prtinting.

Like OKIE, I have been seriously considering one of these also because I'm a big .357Magnum fan. I have never held or seen a 617 so you answered some of my questions. Is this revo about "K frame" size? Is weight a factor? Price definitely is a factor. Our local "cut-rate" gun dealer in St. Pete. offers a S&W 686+1 for $476, a S&W 66 for $447 and the Taurus 617 goes for $319. Big difference. But will it hold up?
