EAA/Tanfoglio Limited in 9mm, re-barreled with Durso/Kneeling Atlas cone-fit compensator (original barrel also shown), EGW sear and hammer, various Henning parts, and the obligatory C-More. Just beginning the process of creeping up to major PF. After 5 years as a dedicated iron-sight shooter, I'm giving in to the siren song of Open.

The way I look at it is like this: Anyone can play the kazoo. But to really play the kazoo well takes practice and hard work.

I'm giving iron sight competition another year and will put some effort into it. I installed a Bowen rear sight on my iron sight 929 revolver and I'm getting new glasses in a few months. But dot sights are really wonderful when you think about it.

I've just started playing with this, but I think the increased feedback from the dot is going to be one of the best parts of this. I really struggle with calling my shots during a match... sometimes I can do it, but a lot of the time I cannot. I simply have a hard time reading the iron sights at speed in terms of what was "good enough" alignment. That leads to plenty of good hits and one or two uncalled bad shots per stage. Which is a real heartbreaker. And I'm tired of it!

I'm already realizing, too, that I've been doing too much watching the sights during transitions, rather than snapping my eyes to the next target and waiting for the sights to appear. I didn't think I was doing that (and would have sworn I was not), but dry-fire with the dot is showing me that I have definitely been falling into that trap.

I think/hope I'm going to learn a lot from this. I also hope to remind some guys who switched to PCC that they didn't start beating me because they got better than me!

Nice blaster! How you going to charge that thing without a handle in the rear sight dove tail or similar. The thin little slide look hard to get a hold of.

Order a few extra slide stops for your spares kit

I've already got a couple on hand - been shooting Tanfo's for a while in limited division. Honestly, familiarity with how those guns work and the stock of spare parts was part of why I went that direction rather than a 2011-based gun.

So far, the slide velocity is comically low, though. The compensator was designed by a guy who found all the factory Tanfo comps to be unsatisfactory in terms of how they used the gas, thus driving the need for an absurd number of popple holes, thus requiring grotesque amounts of powder, thus breaking s*** constantly. Hopefully a more effective (if large/long) comp will prevent that cascade of issues.

Slide racker is mounted right-ward. Given the top-to-bottom shortness of the Tanfo slides, left-side rackers can be thumb busters without a ton of upsweep on them. Although I've been grabbing that thin section of rear vertical serration for years on my limited gun.

I am just getting into RDS shooting in Carry Optics, and it does take some training, much more than I expected. I find the follow up shots are the hardest to track, but I have been mostly dry firing and indoor "bullseye" shooting, which is next to worthless.

I am a "weather wimp" but have just now been able to get in a couple of outdoor range trips where I have really been able to work on followups and transitions, and it is getting easier, but I am still nowhere near as fast or accurate as I was with iron sights.

My first match is this weekend. Going back to the range again tomorrow and Friday.
