the reason I ordered this today and they are shipping it tomorrow and the reason I bought it was two years ago I bought a h&r huntsman 12 gauge b/p shotgun and I really liked it and it was my first black powder shotgun to ever own and at the time it was all the money I had! so I found this one at The Gun Works Muzzleloading Emporium and of course it was expensive but all well I liked the idea of having these as a set together and I've never owned the rifle version so I hope it's as good as this shotgun is! :)

Should check and see if the barrels interchange... Go camping etc and ya dont have to take both guns, just both barrels...Rifle for big game/predators and shotgun for pot meat....

yep I plan on it and I hope they do as that would make them very versatile and save one receiver for later use!

and guys don't worry I still very much love my flintlocks and they aren't going nowhere! and so with that I wonder if theres anyone else outhere who owns these h&r huntsman rifles or shotguns or have used them in the past and ya'lls experiences with them?

There were two types. One was with a breech plug using an O ring, and the other the breech plug screws into the breech, but is readily removed for cleaning.

IF you have the O-ring model, BE SURE if you have on the odd chance a misfire...., to wait 60 seconds and then open the breech sideways...with the breech facing off to one side of you. ;)

You need to check the twist-rate on the barrel, and the depth of the grooves. (iirc) The twist rate was 1:48, but the grooves were sort of shallow, making these conical bullet guns for heavy hunting charges. You should still try patched round ball and like 60 grains of 2F or 3F, but it's likely it will prefer something like a 200 grain Lee REAL bullet and 80 grains. You can find an inexpensive double-mold and never run out of hunting nor target ammo.

I once bought a .45 Huntsman and it wouldn't ignite the cap until I shimmed the nipple by placing a thin washer around the nipple threads.
It had the loose style breech plug that wasn't threaded.
Then I read an article about the lawsuit involving it and got cold feet about keeping it, so I brought it back to the gun shop to return it.
They wouldn't give me a full refund so I took a loss by accepting its trade in value.
I left the shim on the nipple for the next owner.

2 people on ModernMuzzleloader posted that the H&R Huntsman .45 has a 1 in 56" twist.
It should shoot PRB's fairly well.

yep my 12 gauge huntsman has that push in breech plug and I read afterwards about the accidents that happened but really all you have to do is don't open it for 2-3 minutes if a hangfire does happen and keep it pointed in a safe direction! this one coming I think they said it was the same way but i'm not worried about it just be safe and think before you open it up! :)
