I like S&W .22lr revolvers

I too am a big fan of Smith 22 revolvers, particularly the j-frame snub guns. My current accumulation consists of two in model 43C, one model 317, and one model 63. They are a blast to shoot and make for good, cheap entertainment.

One 43C is always in my pocket in a DeSantis pocket holster, and the other occasionally rides on my belt in a Ready Tactical custom IWB holster. The other two are range toys.

I prefer the K frame .22s., it’s too bad I haven’t come across any lately.

I don’t own one but I ogled a 317 at the local shop not long ago and I’ve lusted after it ever since. Light as a feather so it would be really nice to take along when I’m hunting and fishing. On top of that I really like shooting .22.

I really like Smith and Wesson 22's. I liked them a lot better when I could just walk out back of the house and shoot at targets of opportunity. Now that I have to shoot at an indoor range, not so much. Punching those little holes in the paper just doesn't appeal to me like plinking pine cones did.

But I do still hang onto one S&W 22. A 1954, five screw, K-22 "Combat Masterpiece." With it's post-war matte finish, and a beautiful set of diamond target stocks, not to mention a great trigger, I think I'll hold onto it. Maybe there'll be an uprising of Zombie Pine Cones. :)

My K22 Masterpiece is terrific. So is my Single Six. They have pretty much ruined me as far as 22 revolvers go. I got rid of my other ones. The Smith and Ruger were so much better to shoot that I knew I would never shoot any of the others ever again.

You could have sent them to me...I would have been more than happy to shoot them for you!

I like the idea of a Model 317. But I have a Model 43 (the old Kit Gun Airweight) and back when I went to the range more, I found that while it had good accuracy, when I got tired, it did not weigh enough to stabilize my hand. That is, my hand trembled more when shooting it than it did when shooting a heavier gun, even a Beretta 70, which is no heavyweight. On the other hand, a gun you've got because it weighs next to nothing is more accurate (sort of) than a gun you left behind because you didn't feel like hauling it around. I guess that all adds up to not much help.

Oh, also, the Model 43 is the S&W I have where the ejector rod keeps unscrewing while shooting. I have no idea if that has to do with the alloy cylinder, or with how much it was used before I got it. I have never used Loctite, and have been afraid of gluing the cylinder parts into one solid mass.

Howdy

Yeah, I love S&W 22 Rimfires.

Left to right, K 22 Combat Masterpiece, shipped about 1953, K 22 shipped 1935, K 22 shipped 1932, the most accurate of the bunch, K 22 Masterpiece shipped 1953, Model 17-3 bought brand-spanky new in 1975. I just had the Combat Masterpiece at the range yesterday.

Model 17 8 3/8" barrel, shipped early 1970s. That long barrel makes it muzzle heavy, but the oversized target grips help steady it.

I frame 22/32 Heavy Frame Targets. The top one with the Bekaert Grips shipped in 1940, the one with the standard grips shipped in 1923. These are smaller framed guns than K frames, but they were the first 22 Hand Ejectors S&W made after the tiny Ladysmiths, so they were called Heavy Frame.

Model 63, shipped around 1980.

Model 617-6, shipped 2003. I really don't care for this gun at all. Butt ugly, and I don't like full length underlugs. I replaced the butt ugly factory rubber grips with after market wooden ones, but it does not go to the range much when I have so many classics.

The only pic I have 18-4 it was traded to my dad by a friend of his for a sandrail with a Davis 380 the Davis was given to me as my first gun at the time. A few months went by the guy had a heart attackand was found dead on the side of the road in the sand rail. My dad gave me the gun a few years after.

Revolvers in .22LR, though not new to me by any means, have become a new key interest for me. I have two Heritage models, one New Model Single Six, a nice Taurus 94 in stainless, and a NAA mini. I also recently acquired my first Smith and Wesson in the caliber (or in any caliber), an older 63-3 six-shooter.

I haven't shot the 63-3 yet, nor the Ruger.

Don't mean to rain on all y'all's .22LR revolver party, but I just like semi-autos so much more. BUT, at least I shoot a couple of S&W auto loaders. When I get bored with them (it happens rarely), and my Rugers, then I send some lead downrange with this M63, just for gigles. BTW, y'all have AWESOME collections!

There's not much to dislike about S&W .22 revolvers. I find it interesting that Driftwood Johnson's most accurate one is a K-22 Masterpiece from 1953. My K-22 Masterpiece is also from 1953 and it is the most accurate one of mine.

I've gotta get in on this .22 revolver love-fest... :)

Have posted this pic before, but these J-frames are the only Smith .22 revolvers I have at the moment... I've previously said that the Model 63 (bottom) could very well be "the one gun I would keep if I could only keep one"...

I DO want to get my hands on a nice K-frame .22... :)

My Model 63 is also one of the guns I will always keep!

My last range session I had to put 300 plus rounds through it. I had an old bulk box ( the price sticker had 02 on it) filled with a mix of Federal and Reminton Ammo. All went bang with no duds.
