I like them all, but...

The S&W Model 27 and variants remain my favorite revolver. I am fortunate to have been able to acquire several of them over the years but based on the shocking price (to me, anyway) that I had to pay for the last one I bought I suspect my collection is now complete.

My first one was 3.5" M27-2 that I bought in the late 1970s. It was stolen in 1985. I found a replacement.

Around 1989 a dealer offered police trade in 27-2s. They were nickel with 5" barrels. I paid $215 for one that arrived in unfired condition.

A forum member emailed me about a Model 27 in a local pawn shop. He gave me their phone number and I called and bought this one without even seeing a photo of it. No regrets. The guy seemed shocked that I was willing to pay $295 plus shipping for it.

Went into a tiny gun shop and saw about 40 4" M19s he bought from the local police. Among them was this lone N frame. Same $275 price. Should have grabbed one of the 19s while I was at it.

Another forum member emailed after seeing me post photos of 27s and asked if I wanted to buy this one. Yes, I did.

Wanted a long 27 in nickel (I love the shiny guns). Got this on Gunbroker about 7 years ago for $315. It was unfired in the presentation case.

Had a Colt semi-auto that I paid $385 for and I traded it at a local show for a nickel 357 with original stocks and a set of stags. Sold the stags for $150 so I have $235 in this one.

For 10 years I sought a 6.5" version with a ramp front sight. Very hard to find. Passed on two because I choked on the asking prices. Finally decided I wasn't getting any younger and popped on this one made in 1956 paying about $350 more than I wanted. Oh well.

Never had a 6" 27 despite that being the most common barrel length. Never had a 4" one, either, but I did buy a 4" Registered Magnum a few years back so I don't feel the need for a 4" 27.

Feel free to add photos of your 27s or pre-model 357 Magnums.

This one is from the 1970s and originally wore a 6.5" barrel. I sent in in to S&W for a 5" barrel and different sights. Several others have lived with me and I regret letting any of them go. But I still have my treasured 5".

Should have left it as a 6.5 since they are much less common.

The 3.5", Five Screw Pre-27s are my favorite:

But the Granpappy of them all, the Registerd Magnum, is hard to beat:

And don't forget the ruggedly handsome baby brother, the Highway Patrolman. This one is a Pre-28:

I've got a few others, but no pics.

I have a 27-2 with the 8 3/8" barrel that is absolutely pristine. I also have a 28-2 with a 4" in the same shape. Absolutely wonderful examples of what handguns are SUPPOSED to be.

clang--

That blued pre-27 is absolutely breathtaking.

Kind of like the latest issue of Sports Illustrated swimsuit models...but the difference is, that S&W is still breathtaking at age 50, and will be so at age 100. Plus, the wife will never bat me over the head for looking at that S&W. :)

I hope I never see one like it for sale, because all reason would likely leave me, and I would pay whatever the asking price.

Bear that in mind if you ever want to sell it. :)

I'm not sure which is more annoying - the fact you have so many lovely 27's or that you paid less for most of them than I paid for my 28-2, the 27's working class brother. :cuss:

I've always thought the 27 was the best looking revolver. Sometimes I think the 3.5" with magnas (or maybe a grip adapter) is the prettiest but then I see the 5" (with targets or without) and I'm not sure. Sometimes I even fancy the 8 3/8", if I've had enough to drink.
