This morning, my wife got some bad news regarding one of her college courses. She was pretty upset, and started crying. I know she has been pretty stressed out lately, so I told her we needed to go blow off some steam. I drove her to the range, got us checked in and took her to the lane. I just started loading magazines and let her shoot as much as she wanted to shoot. She emptied the mags and I set a new one down in front of her. She went through 100 rounds of 22LR and 50 rounds of 380. This was her best target...

She hasn't stopped talking since about how she wants her own Ruger SR22, and next time we go to the range she wants some of those zombie targets to shoot at. Now she's smiling and posting her targets on Facebook.

Damn, I love that woman.

Exploding targets outside should be fun for her, my wife likes shooting but not cleaning. I would not put anything related to guns on facebook...

lol...this sounds surprisingly similar to my wife. She has always shot a little with me from time to time, but never really got as excited about it as me. She has always been a natural though...

Well, about a month ago I finally found and ordered my first revolver. It was a Smith and Wesson 686 Competitor from their performance center.

Pic of gun for reference... (taken just after first shooting, so still a little dirty)

I took it out and got it sighted in and then we went out and decided to shoot a little. We were only shooting .38 special as that's what I had plenty of. So, we're shooting some, I believe, 16 oz. water bottles full of water. We get down to our last 3 bottles (two 16oz bottles and one 2 liter bottle). She says "Hey, let's play a game. We each get a 16 oz bottle. We'll take turns shooting at the 16 oz bottles and whoever comes closest to knocking the cap off of their bottle gets to shoot the last bottle." I smile and agree. She tells me to go first...

We decided to shoot at 30 yards (we had been shooting the other bottles at 20 yards). So we mark it off and I shoot and hit my bottle right at the base of the neck, so about an inch from the cap...I thought was a decent shot considering. So, she lines up, and takes her first shot. After the proverbial smoke clears...this is what we see...

She shot the bloody cap off and left the bottle full to the neck with water still standing. As my jaw drops, she just bursts out laughing. Demands my phone (I have the only smart phone) and immediately takes a picture (the one above) and uploads it to her facebook, where I still haven't heard the end of it...

Another positive upside to this is she is finally finishing her concealed carry paperwork. She took her class probably a year ago, she just never finished the paper work to turn in to get her permit. She now has gotten the paper work and is turning everything in. She's also picked out an airweight J-frame S&W that she wants to get for carry. She's been researching holsters and all that jazz as well. I think she is leaning towards a "flashbang" holster? At least I think that's what she called it. She told me it hooks to your bra, to which I responded "Sounds like a good a place as any..."

Long story short...it is quite fun when the wife gets involved in the action...even when she puts you to shame with a single shot...hehe.

I have been looking at that exact Smith and Wesson 357 for a couple of weeks now! I love big revolvers, and that one makes me weak in the knees. I just bought a 460XVR, so I have to pace my buying, but rest assured that 686 is on the short list of next purchases.

It is my hope that my wife becomes interested in competitive shooting someday. I think she has real potential, and we need more women involved in the shooting sports.

My wife and I live in Missouri, and responsible gun ownership is looked upon as a way of life here. I am not ashamed of my ownership and enjoyment of firearms, and neither is my wife. We do not fear posting about this on Facebook in the slightest. Two of my wife's female friends are already asking to go shooting with her. I feel pretty safe discussing my guns openly with those interested.

Yep my wife is an excellent shot and when we go out together she usually does much better than I. She even has a gun shop she stops and window shops at. She says she is looking for the gun. I guess it is like shoes she will know it when she sees it.

Yep...I shoot this thing more accurately than any handgun I own, and I've only shot maybe 100 rounds through it. I lucked out on gunbroker. They pop up every now and then for msrp or higher. Using a saved search on GB, I managed to get this one for about $200 under msrp new.

My wife saw some video that's been floating around of a young girl (early teens maybe? Not sure really...) running I believe a 3-gun course. My wife said that it looked like a lot of fun (she's VERY competitive) and wanted to know what she needed to try one out. I haven't looked into it yet (busy...), but that could be fun...and if it keeps her interested, even better.

Nice shooting!

My only concern about posting gun picks on Facebook would be if you're one of those people who has to "check in" everywhere, and you give the world notice on when you're going to be out of the house for several hours or days. Otherwise, with the way your wife shoots, I wouldn't go anywhere near your house if I thought she could be home.

this is forum is open to anyone to view, so what is the difference between posting pics on here vs. FaceBook? I'm not defending FaceBook. I don't and never will use it. It's one of the biggest timewasters ever concocted, but at least on FaceBook you can restrict who sees the photos unless you accept every friend request sent to you like many people do.

Post it. Be proud of who you are. Let the world see more normal, happy people just like them safely enjoying their firearms.

If I were her, I'd show that target to her teacher, and then plea bargain a better grade, if that's why she was so upset. :D

Man, if my wife was that good, I don't think I could outrun her, even with zig-zag maneuvers. :D

I hope she feels better, let her know your famous friends are rootin' for her! :D

The difference is that this little slice of the internet has wayyyyyy more people who like guns.

Smart Tip:

My wife and I were sitting in the hot tub awhile back when we heard some young tuffs yelling at each other out in the alley, Never letting a chance to buy a gun go to waste, I quickly said how exposed and unprotected we were, and that maybe we should have a gun out here. She fell for it...and agreed that I should maybe bring one out. I convinced her we needed a stainless steel revolver, because of moisture and all that...So...there I was standing at the LGS dripping wet with my checkbook...Just kidding...waited until the next day to purchase a nice Ruger and a lock box installed..Hidden next to the hot tub..Might work for you...just saying...
