I ordered a M&P .40 Pro Series 4.25" barrel with the upgraded trigger and the tritium sights from Bud's Gun Shop a couple of weeks back and have been loving this gun WAY more than I thought I would. It is extremely accurate, the night sights are nice and the trigger is really good. I thought I might drop an Apex kit in it but I'm not so sure now. I put on a Hogue Handall grip replacement and it literally fits like a glove. It actually replaces the back strap and is held in place by the back strap removal tool.

The reason I say I must be crazy is I just ordered another one from Bud's for my wife. Both my wife and I are lefty shooters, so the ambi features of the M&P are really important to us. The recoil on this pistol is very mild compared to other .40s I have shot. I had an XD 4" model four years ago that I did not enjoy shooting because of the snappy recoil. I traded it for a XD 9, but did not really care for the 9mm caliber, so I sold it to buy this M&P .40 Pro.

I was going to buy a Standard M&P .40 from Academy for $500 plus tax which would bring it to $541.25, but I figured why do that when I can order a Pro Series from Bud's for $598 including shipping and insurance.

A friend of mine has a standard M&P .40 and we can tell some difference in the triggers, but the biggest selling point for me is the night sights, which I know would cost more than the $60 difference in price.

Anyone have any feedback of their own on the Pro Series vs. the Standard? How are you liking your Pro Series overall? Is the barrel axis lower on the M&P .40 than the XD which I have been told accounts for the lower recoil. Someone said S&W mirrored what Glock did with their .40.
