I Need Recommendations for Knife Throwing Video

Me and my 2 sons would like to get into knife throwing. I have been a firearms enthusiest my whole life but have to admit....I know nothing about edged weapons. I would greatly appreciate any and all info from board members......Like

1. Are there any good videos on knife throwing?
2. What kind of knives would make a nice intro set into knife throwing
3. Target construction
4. Advice, comments that anyone can contribute.

Thanks in advance

It's not like I sit around throwing knives all day, or even all that often, but when I was younger I thought it would be awesome to learn how to throw a knife like on the movies.

You know what? It is awesome. Fun, too.

You don't sound like a mall ninja, but just in case it's needed, get out of your head any idea that whipping a knife at someone is a good self-defense measure. It isn't.

Past that, for me it was just trial and error and learning the knife. I have exactly one throwing knife, for which I paid 10 bucks at a garage sale many years ago, and it works pretty well. You will be surprised at how satisfying it is to wing a knife downrange and get that "THUNK" sound when it sticks. If your like me, soon you will want to start throwing axes and hatchets. I don't own any throwing axes and probably never will, but I have thrown some and you know what? Also awesome.

And just for the record, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being totally awesome and 1 being horrible at it, I am probably a 2, maybe a 3. It is still fun to try though. Actually, even "Throwing Stars" are pretty fun, and a good way to experience success earlier, in my opinion. My biggest piece of advice (and I have no idea if it is even good advice) is this: Hold back on the urge to throw hard. Like golf or wing-shooting, it has been my experience that a nice smooth throw in which technique is practiced over speed is far better. You can throw them pretty hard as you get better, but at first, just kind of take it easy. It's like the difference between throwing a fastball and playing catch with a nine year old. You want to play catch with the nine year old and work up to fastballs.

Congrats on being a cool Dad.

+1! This is a cool Dad move, man.
