I went for a walk in the woods yesterday. I decided 6 rounds of 158 grain semi-jacketed semi-wadcutters was a better option in the woods than 9 rounds of 9mm so I threaded the no-name holster I have for the Ruger on my carry belt, dropped a speed loader in my cargo pants side pocket, holstered the Speed Six and prepared to head out. It's was cool, not cold, so I donned an untucked flannel shirt as a cover garment. Even though I would be walking in the woods I wasn't hunting so I wanted to conceal to make sure I was legal. Besides, I might have to make a few stops between the woods and home. Considering my desire for concealment I chose the 2.75" Speed Six over the 4" Police Six. Some will say the 4" is a better option in the woods but carrying is all about compromise.

I wear this no-name pancake holster outside the waistband at 3:30 and it cinches up real tight against my body. Every time I wear this rig I am amazed at how easy it is to conceal this revolver. At one point in the day it was warm enough to remove my flannel shirt and even with just an untucked t-shirt (blaze orange) as a cover garment the revolver was very hard to spot.

The Six series pistols are the perfect size for carry, at least for me. It's a shame Ruger dropped this pistol from their line up. I find the GP100 just a tad too large for me to carry comfortably.

I really should carry this rig more often.

Didn't Ruger claim that the Speed/Security Six cost so much to make that there was no profit in them?

I've toted a Service Six 4-inch before, and had no comfort issues with it. I was using an IWB holster worn between the belt and pants. Of course, this still requires a long cover garment.

The more I see revolvers like that, the more I know a 2 1/2" - 3" wheelgun of some sort is in my near future.
My EDC is a Kahr CM9 but I like to carry something more substantial on days in the woods. I love my 4" Model 66-2, but something a little more compact and streamlined would be nice. I'm leaning toward a Charter Arms Bulldog currently, but if I saw a 2.75" Speed Six in the gunshop I'd be mighty tempted...

What they actually meant was that they didn't profit as much as they wanted. They were around quite awhile before discontinuing them. Once they figured out how to manufacture the GP100 and SP101 cheaper, they were gone.

That's my take on this for what it's worth. I love the Six series DAs. They carry well and are rock solid. Only slightly larger than the SP and doesn't feel like a boat anchor like the GP.

Don't count on it. As a contractor I have said a few times in the past that I didn't make any money on a job. But I did make enough to make a small profit, pay for materials and pay for my helpers but I have done other jobs that paid a whole lot more for the same effort and time spent doing the work.

A dear friend of mine gave me a 2 3/4” Speed Six. The ONE gun I’d been looking for.

Its a wonderful little gun. I carry Grizzly hard cast 158 GR .357’s in it out hiking.

Great package. I feel it’s all I need. Urban or wilderness.

I miss my Speed Sixs. Had them in the early 80's- a 9mm and a .357. Great guns.

Me too! Had a stainless Speed Six that, like the OP, I use to carry it under a jacket during the cooler weather. Very comforting to have along when I went for a walk in the woods.

I thought SC had legal open carry now. Am I mistaken?

You can open carry in SC "while hunting and fishing" but since I wasn't actually hunting I didn't want to take a chance. And a guy tried to make a point a few years back and walked through downtown Columbia, SC with an exposed pistol while carrying a tackle box and fishing pole. As I recall it didn't go his way in court. Thankfully SC has not passed across the board open carry.

I just picked up a stainless RUGER Speed Six with 2 3/4 inch barrel and round butt. I usually do not like snubnoses, but this one was in near new condition and has a very smooth action. I could not resist.
I am not sure if it will become a carry gun or car gun. I wanted a stainless model for my car gun.
