Wife needed something at Dicks today so I dutifully followed her into a store I haven't shopped in on principle for at least a year, maybe 2. While there, I noticed that Blazer handgun ammo and 223 all seem to be on clearance, 20% off...not that I care because I wouldn't buy them there.....and also saw three remaining MagulaLULA AR15 mag loaders on clearance...for $0.97 apiece and with a pink "20%" off sticker to boot. Those things are regular $29.95! Not being able to resist, I took all three to the checkout, thinking myself and a couple of buddies are about to get Valentine's Day presents. Clerk punches them in, says, "hmmmm, they're not on inventory," and calls floor manager. Floor manager looks at them, says "I'll check it out" and takes them, and then calls the clerk from somewhere else and she says "sorry, we can't sell them, they're on manufacturer recall."

Manufacturer recall, my pootootie. It's DICKS....either they were caught up in the AR-removal fiasco and somebody didn't notice them, or, just as likely the manager decided to buy them himself and turn a quick profit. Nobody seemed to be able to answer the question of why they were on the shelf on clearance and marked down if they were on recall....

Not surprising. Dick's has fully dedicated itself to the yoga mat and soccer cone crowd. I only darken their door way on rare occasion to find a specific item of ball sports stuff for my son unavailable somewhere else.

The one near me has all but liquidated most of its firearm-related merchandise, or sent it back. No more safes, cases, eye/ear protection, etc. Even the air gun section has been thinned to near non-existence. My guess it it's to be permanent, as I also saw what little ammunition they had left (not even enough to fill one end cap) at what appeared to be clearance prices. I did buy a 325-ct box of Federal AutoMatch .22LR and one 50-ctof Remington .45ACP FMJ.

Sorry, Dick's just plain sucks. For those of us that don't need anything Nike or Under Armor, I can't fathom why any shooter or real outdoorsman would patronize those stores. My local Dick's is next to a Barnes and Noble that I actually go into every week, and I'll be darned if I can ever spot a single customer in that store.

Never liked Dicks before all of the AR crap and now I refuse to go there. I don't think there is anything they sell that can't be bought elsewhere and if there is, I'll just figure a way to do without. I've stopped shopping at Bass Pro Shops as well but mainly because of their pricing. It is the highest priced place around and the service is some of the worst. I would use them in an emergency for reloading supplies, but I can't think of any reason I couldn't wait a few days to shop elsewhere. Sadly it seems that BPS is gradually raising the pricing of Cabelas and at the same time reducing the inventory of reloading components as well as firearms. I love the service at Sportsmans Warehouse. At leas the one in Columbia SC has great people and reasonable prices.

Our Dick's is less than a mile from Academy Sports.
I'm hoping that the combination of Academy and Dick's "Holier Than Thou" attitude will kill Dick's, though I would sympathize for the staff.

I went in gander mountain before they closed up. They had bottle openers that made turkey sounds when you used them. Marked down from maybe $7.99 to 99 cents. Very clearly marked with correct SKU and description, and in a clearance section. I’m in sales and give out stuff to my customers, grabbed about a dozen to give to customers

I go to ring them up. Clerk says “these are not that price” like I’m trying to cheat them. They were right by the register so I show her. She calls the manager over. He gets all kinds of huffy and and says “we’re not gonna sell them for that price”.

He finally sold me one. I told him in no uncertain terms to go fornicate himself. Never went back. They are closed now. Good riddance.

If its on the shelf and marked with a price, they gotta give it to you at that price.I was in Bass Pro one day with a friend,he was looking for something I was just browsing while I waited for him.Was looking at some hats that were marked $129,except one marked $19.99,I bought it to the counter, the kid scanned the code bar and it came up $129.I pointed out the mis priced tag,she argued that she couldnt sell it for that price.I insisted she get her boss,he gave me the same bs,I stood my ground and got it for $19.99.While I waited for my buddy to come to the checkout,I saw a stock kid carrying the entire stock of those hats to the back of the store.

I wouldn't buy a 5000K case of 9 MM from them for $1. Let it slowly corrode on their shelves. If they just wanted out of the firearms business no big deal. They can choose what they sell or don't sell. It's their business. But when they stick their nose in my business, their business becomes mine. I won't go in the store for anything. I don't have an issue with others in the 2a community still visiting. Wish they wouldn't. We all make our own minds up on these things.

My daughter was needing something specific sports related about a month ago. Went to Academy, Walmart etc with no luck. She doesn't know my stance on Dicks and the fact that I havent been there in years, but I didn't want to make a big deal...

Of course I can't help myself, make my way back to the "hunting" section. I find all but a few odd boxes of ammo left with clearance stickers, spotty rack of rifles and shotguns left with "all sales final" papers everywhere. Already knowing what Dicks is about it shouldn't surprise me. But for even the scopes, earplugs, cleaners and other accessories to be gone made me a little sick. If you look at the far right of this picture they have reduced what used to be a whole row of knives, multitools, sharpeners etc down to this tiny corner. A lot of them had clearance as well.

There was an Academy very close to where I work that I went to near weekly. They closed it almost a year ago, guess whats replacing it? I hope it fails.

Same as Walmart. When a store starts selling or not selling certain items for political reasons, and not due to market demand, then they have crossed a line. And then when the leadership of that company advocates for restricting my constitutional rights, then the gloves are off and they can forget getting any more of my money.

I don't understand why so many gun owners insist on continuing to shop at Walmart. They adopted a far more radical stance than Dick's, but people don't bat an eye to line up for their food pellet of Chinese crap.

Never been one for shopping. With the internet, the entire American network of merchandise is at my fingertips on my smart phone. 99% of my shooting supplies now come by delivery. Only guns themselves are sought through brick and mortar stores. Just saying.

I don’t mean to single anyone out but think people should know this. Doing what was described in this post is extremely selfish. Most people that do it think that they are “sticking it to the man” but that’s not who they’re hurting. The reason managers are willing to accept the lower price is the money doesn’t come out of their pocket or the store’s pocket. Losses like that are taken out of the pool that the hourly lucky to get minimum wage workers’ bonus comes from. At least that is the case at Walmart and since it saves the bosses money I’d be willing to bet sporting goods stores do it too.

Can't even count, nor remember the amount of times I have seen one of those "too good to be true" prices on an item only to have it denied at the cash register. Same goes for the internet. Seems a while back there was thread on here for a "too good to be true" price on a reloading press and folks jumped on it like stink on feces. Only to find out it was a mistake and it was the price of a single die. Guess how many folks go the deal on the press?

Here's the law....
If an item is priced incorrectly on the shelf, or scans at the wrong price at the till, retailers are under no obligation to honour it, under the Sale of Goods Act. They can offer the item at the correct price or refuse your money and withdraw the product from sale.
.

....so, if a retailer honors the incorrect price, then it is only outta good faith, and for most, an extreme loss, in multiple items, as in the OP's example, is probably not going to happen. Don;t matter if it's the hated "Dicks" or not. It life. A few years back, I saw a 4" 686 priced for $399 in my local Hardware Store. Thought maybe it was used. It wasn't....it was NIB. Asked the clerk several times of it was the correct price. He said yes, even tho I told him up front it must be a mistake. Didn't need another 4" 686, but couldn't walk away from that deal. At this store they do the BC first and you have to pay for it up front. Did that and passed and they completed the paperwork and transferred the gun to me. Went to the till and when they rang it up it came up as $729. They told me they were sorry, but they couldn't sell it to me for the marked price, but would sell it to me for their cost outta good faith. I told them since the gun was already transferred to me, there probably wasn't that option. They reluctantly sold me the gun for $399. Still don't know why. While those "to good to be true" prices don't always turn out to be true, one can always try. Just don't get your undies in a bundle cause it don't happen.....and don't think it only happens at Dicks.

I wouldn't buy a 5000K case of 9 MM from them for $1

.....maybe not, but I'd bet if posted here and it were true, you'd have to get the 'ell outta the way or be run over from folks here, on their way to Dicks.

This story sucks, but isn’t surprising. I haven’t been in a Dick’s for probably 5 years or more. I don’t plan to ever go in one again. Refusing to sell the reloaders is bogus and would be wrong in any context.

Went there before they did the AR crap. And scored a Carhartt jacket for $25.00. Didn't have a tag. Cashier asked willing to pay $25? Couldnt get my wallet out fast enough. They are $100+ online. Now I go-to academy sports.

I don't even know where my closest Dick's store is. Last thing I bought from there was a 250 round box of FMJ 40 target ammo. Still have it, unopened. It sits in the back of my ammo piles. Bought it around 2007 or 08. I am not going to support an anti2A store, that shovels money to Bloomburg over scare politics.

During the .22 ammo situation some years back, Dick's, along with many other places, said they had no .22 ammo. They then opened a new Field & Stream store, owned by Dick's, and to get people to show up, they suddenly had pallets upon pallets of .22 ammo at sale prices.

Made me wonder about their corporate policy on ammo distribution. Whatever ever it was, left a bad taste in my mouth.

I hate to admit it but we shop at Dick's once a year. :( Both of my Daughter-in-Laws are extremely athletic and they buy their athletic clothing at Dick's. So anyway, being the good FIL that I am, I allow my Wife to buy their Christmas there.

So, there it is! Beat me up, kick me around, whatever. Personally, I go in, The Wife makes her purchases and we leave. I don't even look around. (except at the athletic looking girls that are shopping there)
