Two sided poster, probably horizontal, maybe square.

Same base image in each side - Woman, trying to push child behind her, BadGuy pushing in through a door or window. One side she's holding a phone. On the other, a modest pistol/revolver.

Captioning.
CALL 911 and make a Report
Average response time 10-30 Minutes

Draw your Defensive Weapon
Average response time - 10-30 Seconds

Sounds like a neat idea. As a mom who foiled a break in attempt at our home, I can honesatly say that the numbers .45 and 12ga. were in my head before the number 911!!! :D

I had an idea for one of those two sided posters as well once. I got it from our own home...

A parent sitting at the dining room table helping the kids with thier homework on one side...the same parent and kids at the same table with the parent teaching firearm safety to the kids on the other side. The caption: Teach Your Children Well... (Yes, I do have a soft spot for old Hippie music...)

Good ideas all -- will do the photos and posters once I catch up on the current work. Even so, I have some works inprogress you might find interesting.

Oleg - any way you could do some sort of hologram poster with ideas like this? Obviously it wouldn't work over the internet or anything, but a physical hologram poster would be cool - and eye-catching.

Don't have capability to make holograms.

homeland.jpg Here's something to critique. I need to get back to actual work now...and maybe catch some sleep eventually.

Oleg, how about one about my favorite toys -- suppressors! Focus on the hearing protection angle.

OK - I believe the above numbers if one considers all calls to 911. Most aren't real emergencies and the police know it and respond accordingly based on the information supplied to the 911 operator.

But in real emergencies the police respond very quickly.

Example - my 12 year old niece - home alone - hears what she believes to be someone breaking into the garage. Calls 911, explains the situation - police arrive in less than 2 minutes.

Example - my home broken into during the day with no one home - postal carrier sees it and calls 911 - the police arrive in less than 3 minutes. The burglar doesn't even have time to get in his vehicle and leave - he departs over the back fence.

Now in both cases 2 to 3 minutes is enough time for the BG's to do some serious damage so being able to defend your self and not depend on the police to do it for you is self evident but it is IMHO very disingenuous to say 10 to 30 minutes. In real emergencies the police respond much faster than that.

I wish that had been the case when someone tried to break into our home at 2:30am last year...it took over 10 minutes.

Had I not been armed and able to chase the BGs away, I might not be typing this reply today.

In my 911 call I said that I was home alone with 6 kids and someone was trying to break in, BTW.

I think response times vary depending on where you live. We live in the country and have a small sheriff's department covering a large area. Somtimes in larg cities, even with a much larger force, response times can be very long depending on the number of calls at the given time.

There are just too many other documented cases of the police not being able to respond 'in time' for me to feel safe relying solely on 911. This is not to slam the many good men and women of law enforcement who do their best at a too often times thankless job. But, the way I see if and from personal experience...self defense and defending my children is first and foremost my personal responsibility.

I like the Homeland Security Tools idea. The choice of shirts is perfect, IMO.

curious what sling is on the winchester 1300? i havent looked too hard for one, but the uncle mikes i picked up just is too complicated for me to figure out.

I always liked the message in this old one ...... don't know whether something slightly more elaborate could be made.

I like both those pictures. Is it OK if I save them and when (IF) I get my printer fixed, print out a couple copies and take them to a semi-local print shop and maybe have them blown up and a few printed out? Does someone have copyright on them or anything?

G1FAL .... not for me to say you can or can't try and use em ....... but just to say that there would not be enough res' for what you describe.

These ones posted here (haven't checked) might be just say for example 150 dpi and ... 400 pixel x 500 pixel ... that is all you have to start with.... a mere 200,000 bits of pic info. Try and enlarge those as they are and you'll get nothing useable!

A poster needs a very high res original to enable good enlargements...... not sure what Oleg uses but something like a 5 to 6 M pixel camera gets things off to a good start!

P95 - remake that poster with a person (preferably small & female, but that's just me) with a large dog sitting peacefully by her knee. One had on the dog's head, the other pointing the pistol. :)

Bill ... I think maybe you interpret that one of mine differently from me ..... I have always interpreted that one as being ''Dog'' euphemism/metaphor for ''Gun'' ..... and thus don't fear the ''dog'', in other words gun (per se) .. but worry about who is holding it and their intentions.

That message .. for me ..... fits in nicely with the crazy attempts at litigation against the gun makers .... the ''gun'' is itself no threat .. purely the person who may use it for mischief.

Your painted picture tho could be taken and used another way .. viz - many homes have a dog which could be seen as having ''guard'' and protection potential .. OTOH . the owner with piece in hand is making a statement that ... ''dog or no dog ...... I ain't gonna be a victim'' .... or similar.

Apologies if I wrongly interpreted your take.

Werewolf: depends on where you are. Here, semi-rural, often only 2 deputies on duty at night. Sheriff Dept told the guys if they needed backup fast, call the local VFD. They have pagers, they're mostly armed, and they're in the area and will respond; no BS.

This is also the same area where last Summer the State Police stopped by the station. The conversation was something like:"We're having some trouble with BG's at Willow Hollow victimizing soft targets. Get any calls there, esp @ night, be careful. Take what ya' gotta have to get the job done.!"

Deputy/friend once asked me to watch his back while he searched a car. "My backup's 30 minutes away."
