My 80-something buddy showed me a couple of .22 cal. "cartridge adapters" he found laying about his shop which he said had been there for at least 50 years and had no idea how they got there.
He's not computer-saavy, but it even took me awhile to ID them. Turns out they were WW2 vintage M1917 MG sub-caliber training devices.
He served in the Tank Corps during the '50s but swears he never used such a device or happened to pocket a few as souvenirs.....
Yes. One of the .22 adapter outfits passed through my hands years ago. It was a metal chest filled with numerous parts, including a .22 barrel and a couple of hundred of those cartridge adapters. I, perhaps foolishly, sold it -- to a guy to whom I had previously sold an M1917 watercooled MG. This was the same guy who had the MG stolen out of the trunk of his car. (It was later recovered for him by the ATF.)
