I bought what was supposed to be a 9mm S&W Sigma parts kit - everything except the frame. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a Sigma. I'm trying to figure out what the heck this thing is.

I don't have any way to get pictures of it at the moment, but maybe someone can identify it from a verbal description.

While it looks superficially like a Sigma SW9C compact model, the barrel pins to the frame, so it's a 9mm blowback. The barrel is marked "9mm" and a .380 cartridge rattles around in there, anyway.

The back of the slide has grooves for rails, but they stop at the ejection port. Best as I can tell, the pinned barrel holds the front of the slide down.

The slide has no markings at all. There's a cast nub for a front sight, and nothing whatever on the back; just two ribs running the length of the slide.

It has a Sigma-style articulated trigger, a striker setup, and a plastic cover on the back of the slide.

The recoil spring is wrapped around the barrel.

The barrel and slide are castings with minimal machine work.

It was a real gun; there is powder residue in the barrel and on the breech face. Otherwise, I would have wondered if it was some kind of airsoft.

Does this ring any bells for anyone? The slide seems awfully light for a 9mm blowback. Searching "9mm blowback" turns up a bunch of hits for Hi-Points, but the slide doesn't look anything like the ones I found pictures of.

Maybe sounds like a SW9M. The previous incarnation of the "Sigma".

Try a search on SW9M and see if you see familiar looking stuff.

That description isn't really enough...what we need to help is a picture of the gun.

My first guess is the original S&W Sigma SW380...it had an intended service life of 2500 rounds

It's from a SW9M. Technically it is a Sigma parts kit but probably not what you were looking for. You could probably resell it easily, the 9mm version had an ever shorter lifespan than the .380 and S&W hasn't made parts for it in well over a decade.
