Thank you Jim
Thank you ontarget
Cant wait to get home an check the butt of my new baby an see if I cant get the numbers off that to share with yall so mabe I can get a better date...I realy appreciate the help

Hi everyone..so it took the butt off my gun like suggested...and found the same numbers
N9435xx
18543
C10
Hopefully this helps ?
Thanks again guys for the help...I realy appreciate it

N9435xx is the serial number,
It is from 1982, a very late 27-2, the 27-3 came out that year.

The 18543 is a fitting number used to keep parts together in the factory and of no significance after the gun is completed, serial numbered, and shipped.
I don't know about the C10, likely an inspector's or assembler's mark.

Thank you so much Jim...I'm amazed how old it is...an still In Such great shape ...an it fires like a champ...had fun shooting it at the range a few weeks ago before it was gifted to me...lol

Thanks Eddie, do you know where I can find a new hammer for it?

couple I've found online do not look correct.

I'd contact Jack First Gun Parts. https://jack-first-gun-parts.myshopify.com/ I think that is the link, if not google Jack First Gun parts. They carry a lot of older parts. If not, they can probably refer you to who would be able to supply one. Might try ebay but it would be easy to get the wrong part.

Trying again, I screwed up the serial number in my original post.

Model 66-2
.357 Magnum
Stainless
160K178
4"
Adjustable sights
Square butt

This is a gun my friend found while cleaning out his father's house.
38 Special
6 inch
square butt
6 rounds
fixed sights
serial #7773XX
No model number on the frame, but clearly a model 10
5 screws
Stamped A (up-arrow) F on both sides of the frame

This is a .38 Hand Ejector or sometimes called a Pre Model 10. They were not given model numbers until 1957,
This gun was made right before WWll probably in 1947-42

Good evening, I just got a beautiful S&W 19-3 6 "
serial 9K20097 of what year it is
thanks

Just got home with my new treasure, I believe this is a Smith & Wesson pre-27 357 Magnum with a 3 1/2" barrel. Hoping somebody can tell me if this is still factory original and when produced (from looking on line I am guessing 1951?).

Thanks,
Jim

From the S&W Catalog 4th edition:
The 39-2 shipped in 1975-76 Probably late 75 or early 76
The no dash are harder to figure.
Autos started in 1954 with serial number 1801 and ran to 1970 ending with serial number 11500. You can do the math and probably get within a year of two. That's as close as the information I have will get.

Thanks for that info. However, you say that the Model 39 (no dash number) ran to serial number 11500 in 1970. Yet mine is ser # 860xx which is way above that. So I'm confused. (Easily done at my age.) Or did you mean 115000? Thanks again for your help.

My bad, you are correct I meant to put 115000.

I think I have the date pretty close on this one, but I wanted an excuse to share pics anyway and any extra info would be great.

All parts are matching, and the serial number is 359XX. The last patent date on the barrel rib appears to be Aug 4,'85
