If you could have only one handgun, what would you choose?

I'd take a Glock pistol of some sort. Probably a Glock 19 for most duties. They're good for about 90% of all events that confront most people in every day situations like personal defense and so on.

It would depend on the use, but, it would be a wheel gun.
For concealed carry it would be a 357 in SP 101 3" or Lady Smith
For around the homestead it is my 4" Smith 29
In big bear country it's a SRH 480 Ruger 5"
For fun, Smith 63
But, if I had to pick just one it would be the Smithy 29.

Having only one handgun would make me cry, but if I had to pick I'd probably go with a Gen5 Glock 19. Ammo is not too expensive for regular trips to the range, small enough to use for CC, big enough to fit my large hands, enough power with good JHP to do the job.

I have read every post in this enjoyable thread.
There are some really great arguments made for vsrious and different guns.
I am not surprised by the numbers who chose either .357 revolvers or 1911s. What I am surprised about is the relatively small number thst chose anything in 9mm.
This should be mandatory reading for first time buyers.

Easy. My Glock G29.

It is compact enough to carry concealed, can shoot either 10mm or .40 S&W. Can be converted to .357 Sig with a barrel change, holds ten rounds, or can hold 15 rounds with a G20 magazine and my X-grip adapter. It can be used for self-defense against humans or animals. Is reliable, durable, and can be customized for just about any use...

Hk 45c
Compact enough to carry , accurate, reliable, ten round magazines, tactical model with suppressor . What more could a person ask for? It’s an HK!! It’s a .45!!

I've read through this post a few times and really enjoy hearing everyone's reasoning and decision.

What gets me is trying to pick something small enough to conceal on a summer day, that I also feel comfortable with for home defense or legendary shtf application.

Also, I'm narrowing it down to one's I've owned to keep from day dreaming too much about possible purchases.

Sigh... HKP30SK in 9mm or Kimber K6S .357 I lean toward the HK but don't want to admit my only handgun for the rest of my life is plastic

I think I'll change my vote to a Ruger BH 357/9.
357, 38, 9, hell, probably be able to stuff 38 super in it in a pinch.
