If you could have only one handgun, what would you choose?

If I stay in Cali much longer, the way the gun laws are changing here (always getting worse), I might actually one day be limited to one gun. It would be a Nighthawk Custom Hi-Power

Sadly, at that point you'll be limited to 7 rounds of .22 short

In a similar mental thought as JDR, those in CA may well eventually face a one to none scenario. The way it seems to be going that means a revolver. The 586/686 are acceptable. I'd prefer the Sig 229. To difficult to nail just one because they can serve different uses and I enjoy the .22LR as well.

As of right now,a 1911, possibly a lightweight framed one, but as I've never owned a LW gun and only shot one once, can't say for sure

the more I thought about this the more I became sure that no matter the benefits of more ammo, lighter weight, etc, I kept coming back to the thought, "but my proficiency, familiarity, and comfort with the 1911 is so much greater than with any of the other options. there's no real contest."

Only one.... Glock 27. It's what I carry all day everyday, I don't need or want to hunt with it as I have rifles and shotguns for that, it's powerful enough for anything I need a handgun for and I can shoot it as well, nearly as well or better than every other handgun I've ever shot, even at long range. The only real purpose I have for handguns is concealed carry.... But that is a very important purpose, which is why I carry a Glock 27.

For myself, the one gun I love more than any I have shot is the Beretta Nano. Yes, it is a DAO which is not popular trigger, but I love this gun, Love the trigger. In fact, tonight I am ordering a second one tonight. I will have about 10,000 rds of ammo down range by next month. And has been such a fine shooter. $227.00. For myself, a deal I cannot pass up.

Glock 29. It’s powerful enough for pig or bear, will easily take a deer or elk (except rear or quartering shots) and is easily concealable.10 rounds or you can use the magazines from the 20 for a lot more firepower if concealment isn’t an issue.

It can shoot inexpensive 40S&W for practice. I can’t think of a more versatile pistol or revolver. This is the one that can do it all.

I'd prolly keep my Ruger LC9S Pro. Small, light, 8 shots, extra mags. Good for self defense and small game hunting, could take a deer if I had to. Ammo cheap and everywhere. Whats not to like ??? hdbiker

Yes a very rare and desirable collectors piece. The first Luger. The first Registered Magnum. Eisenhower's 1911. I'd sell it and get a bunch more guns.

I've got three--Norinco model 1911 in 45 auto, Sig 226 in 9MM (never ever, ever jams), and a Makarov (also never jams)

I've changed my mind, since we are limited to one gun the availability of ammo needs to be considered. Obviously the 9mm would be the preferred choice, given it's worldwide usage but not for me. I want a Colt SAA as used by Roy Rodgers, Hop along Cassidy and the Lone Ranger because:
1. They never run out of ammo.
2. They never kill the bad guys, only wounding them.
3. They attract beautiful women.
4. They come standard with an awesome horse.
Yep no punybellums for this cowboy, Yippie I aahh.:p

oh - come on, I thought this thread was gong to be some kind of give away … lol
