If you could only have one semi auto 22lr any brand in the world what would it be? I'm debating between a Browning buckmark rifle, the classic 10/22, and the cz 512 which shares magazines with my 455 varmint. For hunting and target.

Ridiculous premise because it's NOT REALITY! We are not limited to only one. You may be limited to only one.....for now....
It’s just one of those, What If, questions. Play the game or sit on the bench.

I would go with the 10/22.
Reasons :
Versatile
Reliable
Rugged
More aftermarket parts the just about any other 22 rifle.

I've owned a few semiauto .22 rifles:

Glenfield Model 60
Ruger 10/22
Norinco ATD (copy of the Browning SA-22)
Remington 550-1
Remington Nylon Apache 77

I still have all of them except the Glenfield.

Of them all, my favorite is the Remington 550-1. It's a tack driver, and with the Williams floating chamber, can shoot .22 Shorts, Longs, or Long Rifles interchangeable and function as a semiauto. It even runs well with CCI .22 CB Shorts, with which you don't even need hearing protection. It's about as loud as an air rifle with them.

Marlin 795 that’s in the safe now. Light, reliable, not a picky eater, accurate. I haven’t hunted with any of my model 60 or single shots since my wife bought it when she was still my girlfriend. Best value rifle on the market in my opinion.

I agree on the 550-1. I have one that looks brand new and one that has been severely neglected and abused. Both are good shooters.

10/22. With so many models available and a HUGE aftermarket grocery store........what is not to like.

I could go either way between a Model 60 or a wood-stocked 10/22. The Marlin is a little better shooter, but I love the way the 10/22 feels in my hands.

Tough to choose just one.

Both of these Rugers really do shoot with both Aguila SE copper clad or CCI SV.

But to keep only one?, it would be the pre-WWII Walther model 1 carbine - the rifle in the center because it is a combination
semi/bolt action.
By leaving the handle up (as in the photo) it is semi-automatic. Nine round magazine.
When you lower the handle, it is a conventional bolt action with the bolt lug down into the receiver. And it shoots CCI SV right
along side of my KKW.
So I'd have two guns in one.

JT - My incredible camera skills somehow (unbeknownst to me) failed once again to capture the quality of the highly
polished blue finish on the Walther. And no, the Ruger stock is not orange.

10/22 here as well, even though I'm not a real diehard fan. Nothing wrong with the design, but I did get a lemon once that ended up getting exchanged because it was so bad. First one I had was great, but I aftermarketed it to death and traded it away. Second one was the dog, third one was nice, but I never really liked how it handled for me. Only reason I'd get one is because of parts availability and general quality, even after my bad experience.

10/22, because of the upgrade....highways?

If I were stuck with not being able to modify the rifle from stock it would probably be a rem 597. To date that has been my favorite .22. Mine was extremely reliable, accurate, and even tho the trigger was heavy it was crisp and predictable.

I have 3 options.

FN Browning made take down .22 , Marlin 995, and a Ruger 10/22T.

The Marlin is a tack driver with that microgroove barrel and shoots every bit as accurately as the 10/22. The Browning felled as many pop cans with the rear sight folded down as up. It's svelt and fast handling. The 995 and the 10/22 sure load a lot faster.

The 995 weighs a lot less and while it's 7 shot mags are diminutive compared to the Ruger, it was my first rifle.

It's a tough choice but I think the 995 comes out on top.
