If you shot a handgun once a week.

Interesting question...it could get into some crazy numbers if one had the "right" pistols...think about it. Own a Encore and AR pistol, the Encore has 20-30+ different calibers and the AR 20+ more, so at the upper end of the range your talking 50 or more weeks and that's just those two frames, now throw in at least one more Encore frame and maybe another AR and now your into 100+ weeks and this doesn't include your other pistols...just something to think about

6 months if I count AR and AK pistols, plus a couple junkers - Raven 25 & a Top Break 32.

Every so often someone pops the question, "How many guns do you own?"

Sound reasons exist to deflect the question. Few would really understand the fascination. I counter with, "I have no idea. Break it down to a question my small mind might handle. Ask me how many martially marked Colts."

They do.

I tell them, "Not nearly enough."

I've about quit consistent practice. Take November and December, aside from finishing off the occasional deer popped with the rifle, or a handful of squirrels and rabbits headshot for the pot, I almost don't shoot a handgun in those times. Nobody can maintain an edge when he lets himself atrophy like that.

I just got rid of a handful of guns I didn't shoot anymore so I am down to 10 weeks, for now.....

What’s the answer if one buys a handgun a week?

I’m sure there’s some that almost meet this criteria.

At one point I was up to six months or so, then I realized it was better to focus on the two types I actually shot and carried well and cut it way back.

I still shoot once a week, and usually one single gun. Just almost always the same one (my CCW) unless I'm doing something specific like working up loads

And only one per week, the next week switched on another one you own. How long until you shot the first one again.

I just broke a year until I would shoot the first one again.

Just handguns?

I've sold a couple of them in the last year (first time in years I've sold or traded in a handgun), so I'd probably be able to start "repeating" the cycle at about the time I finished 1 year. I'm not a "collector", though, so I don't own nearly as many handguns as some other current and former LE firearms instructors I know.

When I was working in my instructor/armorer capacity I was shooting at least once a week. More often if I was working in teaching an extra class, taking an extra class or doing back-to-back range qual sessions. I was also working in many of my personally-owned handguns during those sessions, along with the various issued handguns I was using at various times. Now that I've taken a couple year sabbatical from serving as an instructor/armorer, I've dramatically decreased my range sessions to only a handful of times a year. It's been a welcome break after having been active as an instructor for 26 years.

I haven't a clue and would have to burn to much of my vacation time to do the audit.

Am I the only one who doesn't know exactly how many handguns they own?

I want to start reducing what I have. I'm not particularly attached to my polymer pistols.
Nope, Im there also. My problem is I buy, but can’t bear to sell! What a bummer!

It probably would have been easier to ask everyone how many guns they own. Just saying...

To answer your question - 6 weeks.
