Man, I read through the link (included below) and it seems to say it's illigal for CHL holders to carry "on the premises of a church, synagogue, or other established place of religious worship."

One of the main reasons I will get a CHL is that I lost one of my best friends in the Wedgwood church shooting in '99 and could have been there myself that night. I can't tell you how many times I have replayed in my head what happened that night with me being there and having the means to do something to stop it. Thoughts/worries of a copycat sicko trying to do the same are with me on a weekly basis and I was looking forward to getting a CHL for that, among many other, reasons.

I also recall seeing a news report about a year and a half ago about a church in Arlington, TX, whose leadership was encouraging any LEO's and other licensed members to carry when coming to worship. They went to the church on a Sunday and showed some of the members who were carrying while worshiping. It was pretty cool.

Am I reading it wrong? It's # 6 under "§ 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE" "§ 46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE"

Don,

Keep reading on down...

46.035 (i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply
if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

The section about not carrying in churches was 46.035 (b)(6) which is one of the mentioned subsections. Therefore the church must be 30-06 posted.

This one had me confused for awhile too.

How about if your church has a pre-school attached? Say on Sunday when the pre-school is not open? Been wondering about that.

Chris

Unless the church posts a 30.06, you're good-to-go.

Absolutely, positively, CORRECT!

As for me, my synogogue has no 30.06 sign. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the rabbi carries. :D

I'm sure the pro-gun legislators knew what they were doing when they invented the requirements for 30.06. I mean, you really have to not want CHLs on your property to post that huge ugly sign on your door (in both English and Spanish, no less). :)

And it has to be a huge sign to have all those letters in 1" block type or larger.

I actually understand that Churches and the like didn't have to post the 30.06 sign when the law was passed initially. It was a later addition to require the sign. That is why it reads so funky, but the end result is that they have to post.
