Awesome! Talk about putting your money where your mouth is and making positive real changes.

She did it because the school district was so small their budget couldn’t afford a full time School Resource Officer.

Superintendent Became Cop So She Could Carry Gun, Protect Kids at School

By AWR Hawkins 2 Oct 2018106

Hutsonville, Illinois, school superintendent Julie Kraemer became a cop so she could carry a gun at school and protect her students.

Good for her and her students. I wish the administrators at my daughters school were of like mind. Sadly the front office lady thinks their feeble fence will be enough. Never mind the fact that all one has to do to gain entry is walk through the unlocked office door then back through another door also unlocked 2 feet to the left of the first door, or jump over the fence.. This woman expressed concern after the last school shooting that made headlines and was horrified when my mother who also works at the school suggested she get her CCW and carry a gun. sad...her beloved fence turned the same school which I have fond memories of attending as a child to resemble a prison.

What a refreshing attitude for a professional educator. As a former teacher myself, I would think that teachers would want to be the protectors of their students and the fact that so many refuse to accept the responsibility of not only protecting their students but protecting themselves is absolutely unconscionable.

I loved teaching but sincerely disliked the public education system. I lasted 5 years....

I got a realtor's license to flip houses. The brokerage that held the license had a strict rule: no firearms on company property or when on the job. I talked to our office manager about cases where women realtors showing houses have been raped, robbed, even murdered. I told him the no guns policy was unreasonable.

His answer amazed me. He pulled out his cell phone and said all a woman realtor needs to do is take a picture of the client and then say it's automatically been uploaded to the office. Sure, cause some monster intent on rape and murder is going to let that stop him.

The disconnect with some people and reality is staggering.

I quit that firm and went with the competition. No matter, cause the "market adjustment" of 2008 happened.

You and me both - I walked away from corporate stuff to become a teacher (for a LOT less money) but the bureaucratic crap had me leaving after about the same amount of time. Too many "specialists" who didn't do much. Nice to see someone so dedicated to do what she did.

I live about 20 miles west of Hutsonville, Illinois. My kids have played ball in that school!
Good for her!

Well, I'm guessing that we know some of the same people. I have lived in Arizona for almost 25 years and so I'm far removed from east central Illinois, but I still have family there. I grew up in Annapolis. I'll bet you've had a cheeseburger at Moonshine, huh?

It is a small world.

There was a two trap club nw of Annapolis a couple miles. One of them was the old mechanical traps that you pushed to cock the spring...and "pulled" to throw the bird.
I shot my first round of trap there when i was about 10.
