Illinois - Where do we go now

If the wording of the referendum is made into state law, then manufacturing AR15's will be illegal. Does that pretty much shut down the facilities for Armalite, Rock River, and specialty shops like White Oak Armaments? I'm sure Iowa will be glad to get the factories and jobs.

To my knowledge, as the law sits in the Rules Committee, the language expressly forbids the manufacture of AR, FAL, AK, Galil, Uzi, Tec-9, and AUG (to name a few). Replicas, and equivalents are also included. The definitions are very broad. I don't see any exceptions listed.

In the event the law passes as it is written...the state will have effectively put Rock River Arms, Springfield Armory, Lewis Machine and Tool, DSA, Armalite and any number of smaller operations that assemble AR type rifles out of business.

The losses were estimated at 750 or so jobs, $150 million in manufacturing dollars and $200 million in retail sales.

...But I guess all those folks in Geneseo can get a new job at the Kwiki-Mart and enjoy Blago's new and improved minimum wage.

RRA already has a contingency plan to move across the river and keep most of their employees.

Hope it doesn't come to that.

Sadly...I don't have a plan to move across the river. I have roots that prevent fleeing the state.

Always with the negative waves. Am I the only one who wants to at least actually lose the political battle before we surrender?

You guys are depressing.....

Jeff

We don't call it surrender here at THR, we call it teaching the Republicans a lesson.

Even if it costs us more liberty we can take solace in that we taught them a lesson.

How strange it sounds, if IL got rid of their stupid FOID card their firearms laws would be pretty darn good. Thats excluding Chitcago, but they are like a whole other country. If IL got shall issue, and got rid of FOID it would be no different from MO, actually better because we have to get a stuped Permit to Purchase each time we buy a handgun:cuss:

Michigan has the same permit to purchase law plus a saftey check by the Sheriff/ Police Dept once firearm is obtained.

I lived there 10 or so years ago and almost had a 1914 Colt 1911 held, thinking it was stolen based on the serial number. I know it was not true, it had been hidden in Illinois since 1950's..... Final got the clerk to re-read the discription and found that they were looking for a revolver not an automatic... Just enough to PO you about the situation. If I ever move back there, i'd need to take all my guns in for a safety check and then to register them to myself according to Michigan law.... what a pain! At least it was that way 10 years ago.....:banghead:

Also other states such as MN, North Carolina, Nebraska make you get a similar permit for handguns. Its stupid.

As for saying your firearm stolen thats BS! If the police ever tried that on me here in St. Louis claiming my firearm is "Stolen" then can go ahead and take the firearm, then deal with me in the state court.

Here in Stl county they are trying to pull another fast one. The Police Cheif of stl county wants you to have "proof of ownership" on you. If you get pulled over if you dont have proof the gun is yours they will take it away from you until you can prove it. I asked a officer this one time, I asked him if you have a 70 yr old gun do you need proof he said "yes" He then tried to tell me guns have to be registered, when the Permit to Aquire is not considered regestering your gun, and if you bought a gun from another state, you dont need a permit to purchase. So other :what: words they want you to carry the permit, or a bill of sale of your :what: gun on you:cuss:

Last Ive heard rumor is that stl county has law suits piling up regarding firearms being taken away unlawfully. They can go ahead and take my firearm. Then they will be dealing with a lawsuit in Federal Court under section 1983. $$$$$$$$

I voted against Old Ram Rod last night. I hate the man, and will not defend him. However for the sake of being honest here I have not once heard the words AWB come out of either his mouth, or the mouths of his staffers.

I did. Right on the radio. "ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN lets get it passed". Right out of the old crook county blago's mouth. I'm unfortunatly a citizen of the people's republic of Illinois and I am VERY concerned about how this state is going. We already have some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country and one of only two states(wisconsin is the other) that doesn't have a right to carry law. Instead of trying to pass right to carry legislation like Wisconsin is, we are going in just the opposite direction trying to make it MORE RESTRICTIVE . It makes me sick now that the Democrats have full control of the state's goverment, we are big trouble. Yes , Chicago has always been our capital not Springfield. I renewed my membership with the NRA and joined the GOA.

Ohio is NOTHING like Illinois. Illinois makes Ohio look like Switzerland in it's squeaky clean government. Democrats or Republicans, Ohio is moving in the right direction. Illinois, with Chicago in the forefront, is descending into loathesome third world putrescence.

I'm from Chicago. Every time I go to Chicago to visit relatives, I feel like a Jew visiting Germany... in 1938. There's no hope for Illinois, and anybody who willingly stays there can't complain about the consequences.

You got that right buddy!

County tweaks assault-weapons bill

November 15, 2006
By Jonathan Lipman Staff writer

A long-stalled update to Cook County's assault-weapons ban was approved Tuesday during the board's final session of the term.

The board also renamed the county's administrative building at 69 W. Washington St. for longtime board president George Dunne, who died earlier this year. It also postponed action on a fair-housing initiative.

Commissioners pushed for final votes on several proposals Tuesday so the initiatives wouldn't expire when the board's term ends Dec. 4.

The gun bill, which has languished in committee for more than a year, makes the ban more inclusive by replacing a list of specifically banned weapons, such as the AK-47, with a list of descriptive terms such as automatic rifles with magazines of 10 rounds or more.

Ordinance author Larry Suffredin said more than 86 percent of voters were in favor of such a ban in a non-binding referendum question on the ballot last week.

"I think this is something the people want," he said.

Suffredin (D-Evanston) said he changed the bill at the last minute to exempt some hunting rifles, satisfying concerns from Republican commissioners Carl Hansen and Elizabeth Gorman.

Like many county ordinances, the ban affects unincorporated areas of the county and any municipality that does not have its own ordinance on the same subject.

The gun bill was an issue during the recent race for board president, with Democrat Todd Stroger saying he backed the bill while Republican Tony Peraica opposed it.

The only commissioner who voiced concerns about the bill was Joseph Mario Moreno (D-Chicago), who voted "present." All other commissioners were recorded as voting yes on a "voice vote" that does not require a roll call.

Suffredin also tried to win approval for a change to the county's human rights ordinance that would have prevented landlords from rejecting tenants on the basis of their source of income.

But commissioners decided to tackle the issue next term after Commissioner Forrest Claypool (D-Chicago) pointed out the measure would force landlords to participate in the Section 8 voucher program, which is now voluntary.

Comment: Perhaps some IL members can fill in the blanks wrt specifics, like which hunting rifles are exempted? Is this law a preview of the immediate future in IL?

It'll probably be some vague description. That would make sense for Illinois.

I like how it bans "Automatic Weapons". Yes another law making something that is already illegal more illegal.

Just what we need our taxpayers to do. I am glad they are informed on the things they are trying to ban.

I cannot say enough bad things about this state.

Sometimes I cant believe that there are people out there legally carrying guns in a country called America. I just cant believe that some people live in a country that allows it citizens to carry the most effective means of protecting themselves.

Anyways cheers as I am off to bed.

Yes Tecumseh I share that pain. I lived in Minnesota for a while, and enjoyed living in a free state so much that having to move back to this Chicago run dictatorship made me want to :barf: . Every night when I leave for work I sometimes imagine I can here my G30 call out from the safe "can I come along" (was my carry piece when I was in MN). It sucks to think even in California, and New York there is the chance to get a carry permit but not for us. I plan to leave this state as soon as the wife completes college. I will either make the move across the river to Missouri, or if the opportunity presents itself Colorado.

I would head to Colorado if I could. Its a gorgeous state and the laws are very gun friendly.

I am so tired of living here. I found that I will most likely be stuck here for another 3 years. :banghead:

It took time, but I did get out. (Cook Co, DuPage Co, & ...can't remember the county for Peoria).

Now I have concealed carry in my current and adjacent states, a couple of guns formerly banned by the AWB, and all the large cap mags I want. Oh, I can now use something bigger than 44 Magnum for pistol deer hunting, and I don't have any legal problems using sabots out of my .50 cal BP rifle.

As a native son, I'm so very damned glad to be away.
