It's not the greatest product video and website that I've ever seen, but if you go digging around in there you can find that the LED only activates when the last round leaves the mag tube or the gun is fired. It must be based on a shock switch. The site also says the battery is good for 200,000+ activations and has a 2 year warranty.

I'm not sure how the light isn't visible to the bad guy, especially in the dark, since it would be blinking through your ejection and loading ports.

I thought about that too but then thought if i just shot 7 rounds of 12 gauge and my shotgun is empty most likely the everyone would know where i was at.

Seems to me to be another gadget that will break or run out of battery power just when you need it the most.

I would pass on this one.

I emailed the company with some questions and this is what i received. I run S&J followers and these are made from the same polymer and are cheaper. I am going to give one a try.

Thank you for your email and questions. Our follower serves two functions, alerting the user their shotgun is empty and aiding in high stress, low and no light reloads. We have tested our product for over a year before its release. The follower itself is an enhanced follower. It is made from DuPont Delrin which is a self-lubricating, heat, chemical and impact resistant polymer. The smart led system will only activate when the gun is fired or when the last round is loaded into the chamber. They are programmed to run for twenty seconds then shut off until reactivated. The battery life is up to 200k activations. We do not claim our product is a replacement for training and instruction, it is just another tool for your toolbox. In regards to the reload question. The light is only visible until the first round is loaded into the magazine tube, but in a tactical reload the light will illuminate the chamber for loading a round into the ejection port then will be visible for the first round to be loaded into the magazine tube; your training and muscle memory should take over from this point on. If you have any other questions please contact us anytime

In a home defense situation, you aren't going to be going through 4-7 rounds of 12GA, so a reload isn't realistically a factor. For LE, statistically, they won't be reloading either (do any of them even use shotguns anymore?) but the probability is a little higher.

I can see it being helpful locating the ejection port for the emergency reload in low-light under stress. I wouldn't call it useless, but training and practice is by far the biggest priority and makes something like this less of a factor.
