i joined cuz i saw an old thread about the springfield m6 scout, i have been realy intreged by this gun ever since i have learned of its existance. i just bought 2 of 'em one in ss 22hornet over 410 and the other black parkereized 22lr/410. i haven't shot either yet and am hoping someone out there has one and can fill me in on there peformance
thanks ttm

I had to file down the front sight a bit to get the .22 barrel to hit point of aim with the ammo I was using. Mine always had a slight bit of movement in the barrels if you grabbed them near the muzzle and applied some force. Returned the gun to Springfield this winter and it came back all fixed at no cost to me. Turns out the barrel band that holds the front site was a teensy bit loose. I also find one or two of the 410 shells stick in their holes in the stock if you push them in too far. Nice versatile last ditch firearm though.

Welcome to THR from the tip of the mitten in northern lower Michigan where grammar, spelling and punctuation are not normally checked or corrected. ;)

I had an M6 in 22hornet...it was fun to shoot, but would often have a problem with cases sticking.
I sent it to Springfield under warranty. When it came back, they stated that they polished the chamber and tested it...no problem.
Took it to range and.....sticking case.
It is a special purpose firearm, and very useful, but I recommend carrying an m16 cleaning rod when you shoot it.
Ultimately, I sold mine....I had bought it new for $165. After they stopped production, they went up to $400 plus...couldn't resist moving it.

My apologies for the corrective snobbery I laid on you earlier...welcome to THR! :)

get a clip for it to hold the pivit pin in, they fall out easily.

Wow thanks for the warm welcome I appreciate the the tips and the advise from all.

I still haven't had the opportunity to shoot either gun. I must admit being a long time gun owner of pistols, rifles and shotguns I am more giddy over getting to use these ugly ducklings than any guns I have owned or shot in many years.

I don't think of myself as an expert in Arms but I have been shooting guns since the first time my Daddy responsibly taught me of there use, and learned quite a bit more when I seved my 11 years in the USN, getting the opportunity to shoot all maner of weaponry....that has been some 20 years past.

Today I find myself with a bit of time to take with my grown kids and hope to have a good collection of Arms and some knowledge of their History and use to pass along to my kids and future grandkids. I think I am really going to enjoy plinking with these two new aquisisions and sharing them with the youngsters.

I like the little parkerized, Czech-made M6 .22/.410 I have a lot. Bought it umpteen years back and it's seen a bunch of use. It always goes along when we're camping or fishing and has a prominent place in the "emergency" duffle I carry in the truck when traveling.

Quite surprisingly accurate with .22 LR's given the rudimentary sights, once you master the unusual trigger arrangement. Mine does nicely with 2 1/2 and 3" .410 buckshot loads too, placing all the pellets into about a 4-5" radius around the POA at 15 yds. Where the shotgun really shines though is with 3" #5 loads. I've often taken running rabbits and assorted other small game out to around 30 yds with them.

Light, compact, simple, rugged, durable and highly versatile. It's a real pity that they've gone out of production IMHO.
