So my little sister is 13 years old. She knows I'm into guns and i never really thought she might pick up an interest.
One day she comes up to me and says "I want to learn how to shoot!".
Geez thats all i needed to be satisfied. I went over the four rules with her. Taught her the workings of a semi-auto handgun. Gave her a brief overview of the terms, why guns go bang, what happens after they bang, what movements does what.
Seeing as my only 9mm was a full sized Beretta thats what i taught her on. If you arent familiar with the gun, the slide can bite you finger racking it a lot easier than most guns. The only time i ever got bit was with a friend beretta 96. So i was very sure to repeat over and over again, pull with left, push with right in one quick action and let go with the left hand. I was so afraid it was going to bite her. Sure enough it did. It got her good and bleed and bruised. I was so worried for her but shes a trooper! It didnt stop her form getting it right after a bandaid and some neosporen.
I taught her stance, grip, sights, trigger pull and breathing. I pretty much overloaded her with info in 30 minutes and wasnt sure shed remmeber most of it.
Well we got to the 7 yard range. I gave her a brick of WWB and laid the mag and gun on the table. She loaded up 5 rounds. Popped in the mag smooth, racked the slide like a pro and aimed.
I shi(r)t you not, first shot bulleye, 2nd shot not much farther. 5 rounds within 3 inches. Gosh dang i was freaking proud. She shot better than i ever expected.
Imagine that! A full sized gun, 9mm, 13 yr old girl with a 3in group at 7 yards.
My gosh im still proud.
She's now my designated range buddy and i cant wait to take her again.
Now im looking for a Ruger or maybbbbbeeeee a p22 for her.
If you have similar stories, share em! First time you took your sis, daughter, wife how'd it go?
