My sister and I went to the range today. A fellow there was admiring my model 65 LadySmith, and I let him shoot it. Then he offered to let me shoot his 629. It was the 1st time I had ever shot a .44 magnum, and now I want one. I've shot various .45 acps, and enjoyed it, but not enough to want one. Now I'm lusting after a .44. I've only been shooting about a year...so many guns, so little $$$. Guess it will have to wait until after Christmas.

It was a fun day!

Everybody should have at least one 44. Keep your eyes open for a nice M-29. I used to see lots of them for sale around your area.

You know, I've got a ton of S&W revolvers, in a bunch of different calibers, and for some reason I just have absolutely no desire to purchase a .44 Mag.

I jumped all over a 24-3 target gun in .44 Spl. last year, but I've passed up several decent buys on Model 29s...

Kamicosmos' 1st handgun was a Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag. When you start big everthing else seems easy. Even my .50 AE Desert Eagle (which I recently got a .44 Mag barrel for) seems tame (in felt recoil anyway) to the .44 Mag revolvers.

I think .44 Mag is a "must have" cartrige. My dream wheel gun right now is a .454 Super Redhawk :)

I also agree that the .44 Mag is a must have.
I have found it to be a very accurate, easy to handload, and versitile cartridge. It is one of my faviorites even though I don't shoot a whole lot of them.
I own three of them. The first one I bought was the 7 1/2" stainless Ruger Super Blackhawk. Growing up, I saw so many of them in the various gun magazines; I considered it to be one of the foundations of any gun collection. I have owned it for about 10 years and it has proven to be my faviorite. Several years ago I was looking for a good belt gun to carry while deer hunting. I came across a 4" S&W Model 29. After a very little bit of shooting, it failed me. I am not into gunsmithing and don't know the correct term or cause of the problem, but the cylinder would not rotate every time. I sent the gun to Jack Weigand and told him to go through the whole thing and fix it, do an action job, and correct any problems that he found. When I got it back I found it to be one of the most accurate big bore handguns I had ever fired. It will fire a group of one ragged hole at 25 yards (all shots touching forming one hole, not one .429" hole). Then I came across a cute 3" Model 629. Another good little gun for the belt. It shoots good, but the sight is adjusted all the way to the left to zero. I would like to get that fixed but haven't done anything about it.
I wouldn't be without a .44 Mag since buying my first one.

5" Smith & Wesson 629-5* .44 magnum

Good as snuff, and ain't half as dusty! :D

*FootNote- mine is the fully lugged "Classic" model,
and its the best .44 I've ever owned; and there
has been a bunch of S&W .44's in my stable of fine
firearms.

I have but a single .44. Bought it simply because it was...well, cute. It's a cut down (3") ss Ruger SBH. I enjoy shooting it but usually w/ specials. The .44 (actualy .429) just doesn't appeal to me.

I fell in love w/ a gun once - P7M8. Took me years to finalize the relationship but well worth it.;) I'm afraid if I fall in love that way again, i'll have to face my other love...the wife.:what: :p
