I also agree that the .44 Mag is a must have.
I have found it to be a very accurate, easy to handload, and versitile cartridge. It is one of my faviorites even though I don't shoot a whole lot of them.
I own three of them. The first one I bought was the 7 1/2" stainless Ruger Super Blackhawk. Growing up, I saw so many of them in the various gun magazines; I considered it to be one of the foundations of any gun collection. I have owned it for about 10 years and it has proven to be my faviorite. Several years ago I was looking for a good belt gun to carry while deer hunting. I came across a 4" S&W Model 29. After a very little bit of shooting, it failed me. I am not into gunsmithing and don't know the correct term or cause of the problem, but the cylinder would not rotate every time. I sent the gun to Jack Weigand and told him to go through the whole thing and fix it, do an action job, and correct any problems that he found. When I got it back I found it to be one of the most accurate big bore handguns I had ever fired. It will fire a group of one ragged hole at 25 yards (all shots touching forming one hole, not one .429" hole). Then I came across a cute 3" Model 629. Another good little gun for the belt. It shoots good, but the sight is adjusted all the way to the left to zero. I would like to get that fixed but haven't done anything about it.
I wouldn't be without a .44 Mag since buying my first one.
