I have been talking to a friend of mine in Canada about buying some of his rifles and bringing them into the US (Idaho).

Some probably can't be imported, at least as complete rifles, but we figure the best bet is to deal with a company which does this on a regular basis. Have any of you personally dealt with an American import company or a Canadian export company that you would recommend?

They should be able to advise us on the current regulations.

Unless these are very valuable guns I really doubt you could do this legally without having way more invested than the value

There's little to no difference importing firearms from Canada than any other country.

While one might find a nice bolt or lever action at the good price in Canada by the time you add on fees you probably could get it for less here.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to hear from someone who has experience with a broker, but the list is a good place to start.
I wouldn't do this for common rifles, and it may not work out, but I figure talking to someone who actually works with the law will let me know whether this is feasible.

You can bring them in on a form 6. It really isn't that difficult. Best bet is to use an FFL 08 holder. They will have to be import marked by the importer, and there are some rifles sold in Canada that can't be imported here because of the country of origin, or won't pass the "sporting purpose" requirement.

I searched for years for a Winchester 94 in .356 that I could afford. I found one in Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada at a agreeable price. No matter how hard we tried we colden't legally get that rifle into the US. Dealers on both sides of the border coulden't help us. I still don't have one and prolly never will with prices that are on the ones in the US. hdbiker
