In praise of the Beretta U22 NEOS

"What, it doesn't require a bobby pin, a small flathead screwdriver, a rubber mallet, a second gun to replace the one you threw off a cliff because the mainspring housing retracted AGAIN, and the patience of Job? Where's the fun in that?
"

Now THAT'S funny. Been there. Still like the Ruger , though. I shot a NEOS , and it was all around good. But , for me a gun has to look like a gun. I admit that the NEOS is a great value. The lead spitter mentioned earlier in the thread must have been a lemon. Never heard that complaint before.

Let me join in praise of the lovely Neos! I came to shooting via concealed carry classes at the urging of two shooting friends. Got my CC after using a Neos at the firing range and put 47 shots in the black and 3 more on target. I didn't know what it was but it was fun to shoot and fast to load the magazines. After buying a .45 acp for concealed carry and finding ammo was a bit pricey ($.33 a round at the time) I decided a .22 pistol would keep me shooting and the ammo would be a bit less expensive. I bought the Neos and commenced firing.

Along the way the screws holding the top to the barrel came loose without me realizing it, although accuracy had been getting spotty. After securing said screws and a good cleaning the next trip to the "range" (woods on a farm) yielded tight groups at 30 feet. A friend helped me set up a string of golf balls ($10 at Dicks or Academy for a dozen or so used) and from 5 to 8 yards it has been a fun challenge to make them swing. My son has a M&P 22 and a Taurus 9 shot revolver single action. Neither are as much fun as the Neos.

The problem is, beside not finding cheap ammo anymore, it shoots a hundred rounds in only 10 reloads and it's easy to lose count and shoot up more ammo than intended. I still shoot the .45 at each outing and maintain the self defensive capabilities by using it regularly. Unfortunately .45 acp ammo is easy to find, allthough now about $.43 a round. I haven't found reasonably priced (under .07 a round) value packs in two months.

I got my Carbine Kit on Ebay for $229. I set up a dedicated search for it, then bookmarked that, and checked it every day. It only took about two months, and one day, a seller appeared with 10 kits. I bought mine immediately. The only problem with the Carbine Kit, is that you are limited to the 10 round pistol magazine. Other than that, it makes a great takedown rifle, that is much smaller than a Ruger 10/22
