Hello Everyone,

In late 1997 I spoke with a gentleman that ran a private pistol and revolver shooting range in Carrollton, Texas area.

The name escapes me now, but as I now live in the area permanently I am interested in joining. I can't find it for the life of me though.

Is anyone familiar with it? If yes, can you give me the name and contact information?

If not, can you suggest a good private (indoor or outdoor) shooting club in the Dallas area?

Ideally the place would be like the old Fort Worth Rifle and Pistol Club in Fort Worth with outdoor pistol, shotgun, and rifle ranges.

Thanks for the help.

Hmmm....I live in Carrollton and am not real familiar with a lot of the local ranges in the area (I shoot predominantly at Bullet Trap) but here's a few that I know of:

Dallas Gun Club - http://www.dallasgunclub.com/

Bullet Trap - http://www.bullettrapinc.com/

Collin County Gun Range

DFW Gun Range - off of Mockingbird (used to be somewhere else but I can't remember where) -- indoor range; memberships avail

Dallas Pistol Club - can't find any current info. Web site says "coming soon". I think they were possibly closed and are being reopened???? This may have been the outdoor range off of Beltline towards Coppell???

Bass Pro - indoor range; about 8 lanes; must "check" guns at the front of the store and have locks put on them and fill out paperwork like how many mags, how many rounds of ammo, etc....a real pain if you're like me and take a bunch of guns and accessories. Unless they've changed they won't allow silhouette targets and it was hotter than )#@($* in there last summer.

Winchester (now called something else) - outdoor range off of Luna road.

Targetmaster - indoor range off of Jupiter I think

Well there's several in Garland, DeSoto/Duncanville, etc but I can't remember them all.

There was a gunshop in Farmers Branch that was sold (owner died and the wife sold the shop and/or went out of business because Farmers Branch wouldn't allow another evil gunstore in their fine town). Don't know if he had a private range or not.

There is also Lone Star in Plano that has a little 4 lane range but it is only used for classes and the shop itself.

I shoot predominantly at Bullet Trap so I'm not too familiar with the other ranges in the area.

I used to live in Plano. Since I lived less than a mile from it, I was a member at the Bullet Trap (indoor), but also used the Collin County range in McKinney (outdoor) on occasion. Check 'em both out and see which you prefer.

They are very much in operation--Never heard of them being closed. Used to be known as DPRC (Dallas Pistol & Revolver Club.) In recent years name has changed. Yup, on Belt line--First turn out west of the Luna Road traffic light, on the north side, just before first bridge. They have a phone, but I don't know how listed. Something every Saturday-- All kindsa steel plate matches, Personal Defense matches, bullseye. They host the yearly Glock match. visiting shooters are welcome, on a "Temporary Daily Membership" basis, for the matches. No match first Saturday, a work day at the range. They keep the place up very well and have an excellent assortment of plates & such.

No rifles except .22 rimfire and, I think, air guns. There is one tactical shotgun match peer month.

I am not yet a member, but I shoot at least one match a month there--Sometimes three times. Fun place, nice, hospitable bunch of shooters.

Best,
Johnny

DCSA? Built in early '96. Small, private indoor range about 12 miles north of DFW airport. Lotsa details at www.dentoncountysports.com

I'll be there for "Open House" at 0800 this Saturday. Gotta go wheels up with CHL class at 0830.

Ever play a little game named "Dollar A Hole" ? ;)
