Does anyone have any background information on a savage model 1903? It's kind of an ugly looking pump action 22, clip fed, with an octagonal barrel and crescent buttplate. Looks like it might have been Savage's answer to the 1890 Winchester. I saw one for sale at a local gunshop for $130 and I think it looks like a good deal, the gun looks to be very well made. Just curious about history and price range.

Alex, the Savage Model 1903 was made from about 1903-1922. The Model 1903 was a slide action repeater with a detachable magazine chambered for .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle cartridges. The octagon barrel was 24" long with open sights and had a blued finish. The pistol-grip stock and grooved slide handle were walnut.

The Blue Book Of Gun Values - 25th Edition lists the following values for a standard grade Savage Model 1903:

100% - $375
98% - $315
95% - $200
90% - $150
80% - $120
70% - $100
60% - $85

Replacement parts for the Model 1903 can be found at Numrich Gun Parts Corporation. Hope this helps!
