Anyone have a online source for take down/assembly instructions for a Winchester Super X model 1? I was lucky enough to pick one up last week at a gunshow. I've read that these are supposed to be great guns so I figured I'd give it a try. It's an early trap model with the stage 1 trigger and screw holding qorn the front of the vent rib.

Thanks.

My uncle had a Super X1 when he was alive, really like the gun but God only knows where the manual for it ended up.
You might try Brownells, they carry quite a collection of diassembly books for older shotguns.
The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Diassembly Part 5: Shotguns. contains a section detailing complete teardown and reassembly of the gun.
A book you may well consider owning a copy of.
Again Brownells or DBI Books can set you up.

Thanks Gents,

I was kind of hoping I could just download the instruction manual - but I guess the reason I did not come up with anything is because noone will let you have a copy for free.

John,

Thank you sir!

Humm, for some reason the one on the link looks in wee bit better shape than the original 1974 one I have...

For $7 does it come with Hoppe's No. 9 smell, or that cost extra? :D

Whups.

Steve

You're welcome Steve. The #9 smell is extra - because you have to buy it from Bruno Shooters Supply (he has the OLD formula #9 with Nitrobezine.)

clang - If I had a copier or scanner I'd send you a copy of the one I bought. It was very useful when replacing the buffer(#1 thing to do - push out and push in the new one) & the recoil and firing pin springs in my SX-1, although it really isn't too hard to pull one down and put it back together (not as easily as an 1100, but not too bad).

IIRC - Remove the forend & barrel keeping the parts in order as you remove them. The magazine spring retainer just prys out. Then remove the pad, unscrew the stock bolt and pull off the stock, push out the pin in the side to remove the trigger assembly, pull out the bolt handle, and then figure out how to depress the recoil follower while you manuever the link clear and get the bolt out of the receiver. Punch out the pin in the recoil tube assembly if you're replacing the recoil spring and/or follower or just replace the whole assembly with a $100 stainless one from Wright's/Brownell's. There are stainless magazine tubes available as well if the original gets rusty.

I can't describe how to get the bolt apart or the trigger assembly. But if I did it almost anybody should be able to.

Somebody correct me if I've goofed.

You would think the instructions would be on the web. I figured for sure that Steve's pages would have them - nope.

good luck finding parts if anything ever breaks or is lost,

I lost the cocking lever outta the bolt last month, didn't notice until I got ready to unload it at the end of the day,

lots of parts places list the part comprising the lever, but none have it in stock or even have an idea when they'll get them in,

good thing though, the shotty still works fine,

they're great guns and you'll enjoy shooting it a lot.
