I have the chance of buying a Type 99 Arisaka with the mum intact for $450. The stock seems to be a bit beat up, and the bore is a little rough, but would that price be worth it? What do you guys think?

It really depends on how rough, "rough" is.

If its in decent, serviceable shape. I would say yes, thats about 50-100 lower than I would expect.

Recently, for some reason, i have been seeing these come up for sale at gun shows. Decent looking rifles for 500-600 with Mums.

Arisaka stocks I have seen are usually beat to heck and back. With the mum intact I would pay that. If it has the AA sights and/or monopod thats a bonus

It's a good price if the numbers match? Front of the safety shaft, bolt, fore-stock ring all numbered. Serial number on left in front of arsenal mark.

Dark rough'ish bore may just be crud from corrosive primers and dirty/sooty powder? Scrub well and shoot some good ammo and it may brighten right up. Ive seen it before :)

The stock woods are a bit softer than most USA walnut, so they can get dinged easily. If you get it, when you disassemble to check for rusting under barrel, etc, you should find small wedges in the front stock ring between the wood and metal. If not, it has been disassembled before and they have been lost. they are there to keep the wood tight and quiet when handling.

Metal very strong. How's the muzzle/crown?
