Is Mississippi Next? Permitless holster CCW and designate armed church guards

Will Mississippi be the next state to have permitless concealed carry?

It may be a reality if this proposal passes the House and goes to the Governor. It seems they are on the way there already. According to the article, people may carry in their purses without a permit.

The bill known as the "Mississippi Church Protection Act" has passed the Senate 36-14 on Tuesday and returns to the House.

In addition to the proposal of permitless carry in holsters, the bill enables places of worship to designate members to undergo firearms training and carry inside the place of worship to protect it's congregation.

Mississippi Senate OKs bill allowing armed guards in church

"The Senate voted 36-14 Tuesday to pass the bill, known as the Mississippi Church Protection Act. The bill returns to the House.

It says places of worship could designate members to undergo firearms training and carry guns to protect the congregation.

The bill also allows people to carry guns in holsters without a concealed weapons permit, expanding on last year's law allowing people to carry guns in purses without a permit."

.

It seems like they are getting conceal carry without a permit the hard way.

Does carry in a purse only apply to women or are men allowed to carry in a purse also?

Carry in a holster is also overly restrictive. Is pocket carry considered to be a holster?

Anyway wars are won one battle at a time and folks in Mississippi are winning.

I guess men too, it just says people.

Also new additional information on the exact text of the law.

Followup: The bill passes the House and now goes to the Governor

Followup: The bill passes the House and now goes to the Governor

The Mississippi House passed the legislation 85 -35 and now goes to Governor Phil Bryant (R) where he is expected to sign the bill. This would make Mississippi the ninth state to allow permitless conceal carry .... (in a holster).

There are some other good things about the bill. And since the article is from the NRA, we are allowed to reproduce the article here. And I will update this post again when the governor signs the bill, unless someone posts it here first.

Mississippi: House Gives Final Approval to NRA-Backed Permitless Carry Bill, Sends Measure to Gov. Bryant for His Signature

https://www.nraila.org/articles/201...sends-measure-to-gov-bryant-for-his-signature

"Today, the Mississippi House voted 85-35 to concur with Senate amendments to House Bill 786, sending the legislation to Governor Phil Bryant (R) for his expected signature. Despite months of misleading attacks by New York gun control advocate and billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his anti-gun state groups, Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, lawmakers overwhelmingly approved HB 786 this session. Thank you to those NRA members and Second Amendment supporters who contacted their elected officials in support of HB 786 throughout the legislative process!

House Bill 786 by State Rep. Andy Gipson (R-Braxton) accomplishes the following:

Expands current permitless carry options to include belt and shoulder holsters. (Legislation passed in 2015 authorized Mississippians who are eligible to possess a firearm under state and federal law to carry a pistol or revolver without a license in purses, handbags, satchels, other similar bags or briefcases or fully enclosed cases);
Allows church authorities to develop security programs that designate enhanced carry permit holders or those with military or law enforcement backgrounds to protect places of worship and receive the benefits of existing protections under the state’s “Castle Doctrine” law; and
Prohibits state or local enforcement of federal executive orders or agency regulations not approved by Congress which conflict with the Constitution of the United States or the Mississippi Constitution.

Once Governor Bryant signs the bill, Mississippi will become the ninth state to pass legislation recognizing a law-abiding adult’s ability to carry a concealed pistol or revolver for personal protection without government-mandated permitting or fees. (West Virginia and Idaho passed permitless carry legislation earlier in the year, their respective laws take effect this summer; HB 786 takes effect upon the Governor's signature.)

NRA-ILA would like to thank Senate and House leaders, Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves (R) and Speaker Philip Gunn (R), as well as the sponsor, state Rep. Andy Gipson (R-Braxton), and key committee chairman state Sen. Sean Tindell (R-Gulfport), for their leadership on this important bill. If you haven't already done so, please send them a quick note of thanks for their key support."

CONGRATULATIONS MISSISSIPPI - The Governor Signs The Bill

CONGRATULATIONS MISSISSIPPI !

The Governor signed the bill. This makes Mississippi the ninth state to have permit-less conceal carry (as long as it is in a holster).

In addition it allows church officials to appoint members to carry in order to protect it's congregation.

There was no mention when the law will take effect, I'll try to followup with more info unless someone posts it first.

Great news! 2016 has been an exceptional year for gun rights and it's only April. Possibly by years end, two more permit less states will be in the fold.

Already seen a couple of local editorials predicting blood in the streets. I predict 50% of the population won't even know the law has changed. We've had open carry for almost a year and I've seen maybe 25 people carrying.
