is my firing pin broken

I picked up my ruger mini 14 from my brother yesterday and he told me it would not fire anymore. I think he was dry firing it and broke the firing pin. I field striped it and looked at the bolt and when shook back and forth, the firing pin moves in and out freely. does this mean that its broken, and how could i disassemble the bolt to see. Also, I would like to know if this is easily fixed or should i take it to a gunsmith.

No the firing pin just sits in the bolt.
If it does not go bang a complete cleaning is the firs step.
If dirt does not allow the bolt to close ALL THE WAY it will not fire.

even if it look closed.
clean then trouble shoot.

I agree with norsecat clean the gun first, try it out then take it apart if needed. Dont try to fix a problem that may not exist.
