Are there any (monthly, quarterly) periodicals available for the serious gun collector? Something that deals with all types of firearms. Covering historical background and detailed info like markings and values.

Look for a copy of Man At Arms.
It's a Mobray publication that deals with collecting guns and swords.
I sometimes buy a copy off the news stand, especially if it has an article on 1911s in it.

I saw one at Barnes & Noble the other day. It specifically had Collector in the title, just can't remember the rest. Go check there.

Won't work long term.

People tend to get fixated around a make or type of boomstick, and that's it for them - they don't care about the rest. For instance, a guy may be trying for every variant of the Ruger 10/22... But he could care less about the same sort of activity around the Nylon 66...

Gotta wonder how many gun collectors/gun nuts are aspies...

It's now called Gun Collector (Old tittle, Man at Arms). Very good magazine, one that you will read several times and keep rather read once and toss.

There are also auctions that deal in antiques, classics, and other collectable firearms, and these may be your best source of information about current markets. The same can be said about dealers that specialize in collectables.

Some of these auctions and dealers have websites on the Internet, and with a litle exploring you can find them. The following are examples and may help get you started.
