It depends on where you're at for the most part. Stolenweapons.com is beginning to be used more, and if you're in Florida, you can use the FDLE website. Try googling searching:
Well the feds have not perfected the psychic data bases yet, LOL. Actually, only the guns reported stolen and the information entered into the database prior to being checked will show up. A gun certainly may be reported late, after a purchase is made. This is true with any used purchase. I seem to recall our pawn shops selling 2 guns over a 25 year period that were stolen. They were not reported stolen at the time we initially took possession of them and passed the local police check just fine. One was even pawned multiple times and as a result, checked multiple times. The gun simply had not been reported stolen yet. This type of thing happens and will continue to do so until that psychic system is worked out.
Any check you can do, however, will undoubtedly boost your odds of NOT getting a stolen gun.
Very true. A lot of people also don't keep track of their serial numbers for their guns either. It know it's foolish, but it happens all the same. Many times a gun is reported stolen with a description rather than a serial.
Good luck getting a gun returned when you call to report a "wooden stocked 12ga Remington 870" stolen.
I've got a question for the OP. This is the 3rd thread you've made asking just about the same thing. What gives? Where/ With who are you doing business that has you so concerned with the buying and selling stolen guns?
