I am left-handed and am looking for a used 20 guage Ithaca 37, preferably deerslayer. I have read many websites and discussions and one website mentioned that as the company changed hands, quality sometimes suffered.

For those of you who know Ithaca over the years, could you tell me if there were any particular problem years to avoid?

Thanks for your opinions!

There's a general decline in quality after 1970 or so, and a steep one after the company was moved to King's Ferry in 1987, which confined to 2003 IIRC. However it must be said that the quality problems are on more of a gun by gun basis.

I've seen later year '37s that looked and functioned as well as any equivalent '50s model, I wouldn't reject one of these guns out of hand because of its year of manufacture.
