I've been holding off to share but I got the phone call earlier tonight. Now some will recall a single Mom and daughter that went through a bad deal. I taught the mom to shoot and assisted with CCW. I also got the daughter started on a 22lr bolt gun. Moved off to be closer to Parents. Daughter last year for the holidays got her own 22 lr bolt gun, from grandpa and was successfull on her first rabbit hunt.

Well...I also gave a few lessons with a shotgun, 28 ga single shot in youth size. Grandpa is a shotgunner, his guns too big, so he gets the same 28 ga youth set up I taught her with. That was a B-day gift earlier this year. Grandpa started reloading with grandaughter's help 28 ga loads. Grandpa also been on the prowl...paid off. More on that later.

I had rec'd a padded envelope from this little lady. Now she is well mannered and all but Mom approved my wishes, no "Mister," no "Sirs" She refers tome as Steve or whatever she chooses, old fart, old man, relic...etc., I tend to do this with certain kids, with parental approval, we just communicate. I'll just paraphrase her letter .

" Hey Old Fart, you behaving? Probably not. Now open the smaller padded envelope". [Now inside the envelope were some dove feathers, and bits of clay targets] "Grandpa and I been working on my shooting, he has a thrower, and I'm working really hard. I practice mounting the gun everyday. I'm getting stronger, but I still mess up. I did hit 5 in a row, these are pcs I found. [smilie face from her]. Grandpa said we should try the doves on the farm one morning, they sure are fast. Grandpa told me to pick my shots like you said to. I kept missing. Grandpa said I was trying to hard, just relax, have fun, and when I hit one I would remember how it looked. [ Now understand this little lady "may have picked up some habits from me, Grandpa sounds like we would get along just fine] Well Old Fart, I saw him coming, I didn't move until he got closer, then I made sure I mounted the gun right and focused on his lips kept swinging and that sucker FELL!! My first dove!! I opened the gun and handed to Grandpa in a safe way, I raced the dog and found it!! Cool Huh? I got 3 more that day they were easier,so here are some feathers.

I'll end her letter there. Okay Grandpa found a good used 870 pump in 28 ga, ordered a youth stock and gave it to her on the 25 th. Needless to say there is a very excited little lady, and she can't wait for the final fitting for HER OTHER shotgun. The Mom said I was partly responsible for her and her Mom ( the Grandma) spending quality time...because daughter and Grandpa are always doing something. Mom said she gets to borrow the daughters shotgun--maybe. :p

If you could have seen these two ladies after what they had been through it would have hurt. Time has healed some of the pain, along with the Grandparents. Firearms played a part. Oh the whole family shoots , its a great thing in sharing and support. Me , hey when is the last time you had pcs of clays or feathers mailed to you?

It's a good feeling.

I understand Twerp [ my nickname for the little lady] is really eyeing Granpa's 28 ga O/U. I suggested this O/U be sent to me ...for safekeeping of course...because Twerp ain't big enough - yet. I now have another "name" I'm referrred to by the Grandpa...all in fun of course. :D
Hey, can't blame a guy for trying, too keep it...:p
