I have a question about a 20 gauge Iver Johnson shotgun.

The serial # (if you can call it that) is TCXC. It is stamped on the tang, just behind the trigger guard. TCXC is also stamped into the wood of the forearm, and the metal. The phrase -20 GAUGE CHOKE BORE BARREL AND LUG FORGED IN ONE- is stamped on top of the chamber. I can make out the word "IVER" on the left side of the receiver. The receiver is coated in a fine coat of rust. It locks up tight. The lever has about 3/16" of play, to the left.

I'm thinking of trying to take the rust off with steel wool, but I've decided to ask if it would be a waste of time? Any value to this old piece? Does the TCXC have any meaning (like manufacture date)? Thanks in advance.

I've got a Iver Johnson Champion in 20 gauge single shot, I never was able to find a serial number on it, just production numbers. I bought mine brand new back in 1958 for the princely sum of $25.00. Still have it, in fact it's shot just about every type of game that N/E Wisconsin offered. About 40 years ago I did my first restoration on a gun and it came out beautiful, as it is today. I've got no idea how much that gun is worth today, but the sentimental value to me is priceless.
