Has anyone here heard of an Iver Johnson shotgun?

I have a sxs 20ga 3in chambered Iver Johnson
the barrels are 28inches long and the only other id markings on it are Hercules Grade on the top of one of the barrels
any idea of the value?
(id say its prolly 60-80% condition)

any help would greatly appreciated.

I've heard of Iver Johnson guns. They are American made. My impression of them (based solely on what I've heard/read) is that they are rather cheaply made and lower than average in quality.

My guess is that your SxS is 60 to 70 years old. It's value is that of a "shooter" and not a collector's item. Therefore, taking a wild guess, if it's in decent condition and safe to shoot, I'd say you might get $250 to $300 for it.

Actually though they were inexpensive guns they were fairly well made for the most part. But they were simply made in high numbers, were generally rather plain and are not worth much to most collectors.

$300 would be very optimistic. If you get 150 be thankful.

Hercules SxS Shotgun value

This is what Bill Goforth, the author of THE book on Iver Johnson firearms, had to say, in another forum:

the iver johnson hercules grade shotguns were actually manufactured between 1924 and 1941. none were manufactured after world war II although some may have been assembled from parts on hand.

the double ivory bead sights were a factory option while the checkered pistol grip and fore-end were standard. the pointer dog is actually etched on the reciever and was also standard.

the hercules grade shotguns are field grade gun and only the 410 gauge was offered with a straight stock. standard stock had a pistol grip with hard rubber cap and two triggers were also standard.

extras offered by the factory were lyman ivory bead sights, jostam anti-flinch recoil pad and miller single trigger. cost of a gun like yours with the two ivory bead sights in 1942 was $44.50. value today depending on condition would be between $500 to $1250
