IWB vs. OWB for those of us with back issues

A good gun belt makes a difference even when carrying the new lightweight pocket pistols and revolvers. And a good holster is essential for me even if it is to go into a pocket.

It looks like I found a solution. Crossbreed has an OWB holster called the Snapslide. It rides high, so it conceals well. The leather that makes contact with you is smooth, so there's nothing digging into your side. I'm wearing it now with my P320RX and it's about as comfortable as a hoslter gets. As others have mentioned, a good belt is necessary to support the gun and hold the grip close to your side.

I have lower back issues from L1 to L5 since my 20's , when having back problems an walking like John Wayne for two weeks I would use a shoulder rig , appendix carry also is a good option . When your back to normal a good EDC gun belt like a Kore Essentials EDC belt Is something you should look in to . Even on those iffy days the weight on your waist is uncomfortable . The cat showed I have degenerative disc disease , better word for " old age " I still feel I can go a few rounds if I had too . I'll take it if it is the worse I have to deal with. And it's fun buying new holsters .

History of back problems, exercising it on a back extension helps a lot. I wear a Don Hume JIT slide, OWB for many years, long enough to have replaced it once. But they're fairly inexpensive @<$30 and they carry my 3" 1911 rather high, which I like, and I carry it all day without a back issue.

I haven't hit the problem yet, but a lot of guys with those issues add suspenders. This allows them to wear the belt a little looser to keep the pressure off their body, and with a good belt it still provides a stable platform for the holster whether worn IWB or OWB.

This. A good OWB holster a good gun belt & suspenders. The best suspenders for carrying a gun that I have found are the side clip Perry suspenders from Duluth Trading. Puts the support right by the gun carried at 3-4 o'clock.

You guys are gonna hate me, but my EDC holster is a cheap Uncle Mike's #12 in the small of my back with a KelTec PF-9.
Four fractured vertebrae, four blown discs, fractured and dislocated coccyx, fractured sacrum and now raging osteoarthritis. For some bizarre reason, this combo rides smooth and comfortable, conceals well, and is a fast and smooth draw for me. I have a good thick leather belt, maker unknown (bought it at the county fair), which helps, too, and just one spare mag in a universal carrier.
It works for me, what can I say?
