Howdy,

I have a nice Model 31 (.22 semi-auto, tubular mag, nice lines) with a missing extractor (it blew out one day and I could never find it in the grass). Numrich lists at least 3 types and I'm confused:uhoh: ... machined, flat, and type A and type B I believe. Anyone know whether they will all work, which type is best, etc.? One of the images I've found shows a 2-pronged extractor. I haven't been able to locate detailed disassembly instructions, either. Are extractors normally retained by a pin or just a spring?

Sorry for any stupidity contained above.:)

If you don't know or remember what kind of extractor you had on the gun, one clue is to look at the extractor cutout at the chamber end of the barrel. The claw type extractor will probably be wider than the stamped steel version, and the cut will be wider, where the stamped version will be narrow. then you order the extractor parts of your choice, and cross your fingers. Good luck.

Sorry, without actually seeing the bolt on your gun and the cutouts you describe in the chamber area, I can't be of much more help. If this "double claw extractor" is one piece, it must be made of spring steel and fit across the breech face of the bolt like a saddle. I didn't see a picture of the part, so I don't know.

Took the old mod. 32 out...mine has the dual extractor...wich is in reality a bent piece of sheet metal, kind of shaped into a "U" and it's the two sides of this "U" that are the extractor hooks. Haven't had a need to take the extractor out of the bolt, but it looks to be held with a captive pin (and a spring a plunger in a blind hole to power it).

You are right about the cut out's on the barrel...would be for the stamped. dual prong version.

Usually these guns will break the operating lever...that part, which is a projection of a larger part, is made of some type of pot-metal/zinc casting. That did break on mine, so made one out of sttel...hasn't broken yet.

No, as ribbonstone says the double extractor is basically like two regular extractors stacked one above the other on the right side of the breech bolt, with a bit of space between them. I've seen pictures... I just can't tell by the description if the "machined" one is what I need. The 'stamped' one I've seen pics of is a single extractor. I guess I could gamble but $20 +shipping is like a weeks' worth of lunches for me.:D
