Very sorry to read about your experience. A quick and low cost recovery is to file in small claims court in your county. DOenst matter where he lives as the court will have the local sheriff hand deliver the summons!. Will cost an average of 90 to 125 dollars to file the claim and about 25 for sherrif to put it in to his hands. Never had to do this on a firearm but have on two other issues, One was a large company and within a week of the summons, Got a phone call with an offer to pay the amount rquested, All court costs and and extra 20%. Small Claims Courts are ideal for this type of problem, Easy to file and even big companies hate them, It cost AT&T 700 bucks plus their attorney fees . Hope this helps!

Yeah, I would 100% demand the overnight delivery charge back.
Maybe not if things had happened, but for spending so long not taking two minutes to let him know.

Also, if it was me, once it arrived--if I did accept it--I'd post a few pictures and a quick objective write-up about the first range trip as a show of good faith.
Towards the forum, if not Ross.

Met John Ross at a Missouri Carry picnic years back. Found him to be a quite arrogant.

His response is more than arrogant, bordering on rectal orifice-liness.......
Please tell anyone you know that's pissed at me that they'll have to take a number and get in line...

We have had severe flooding around here too. Many personal businesses were affected, many completely destroyed. Mr. Ross's business is just fine and didn't suffer at all from flooding. One wonders why he had the time and opportunity to cash the OP's check, but couldn't send the gun. Couldn't send out a reply to any inquiries, even tho there was clear evidence he had opportunity.

IMHO, Lame excuses generally mean there is something more lame going on. His lack of an apology and instead, a putdown to someone he obviously took advantage of, shows his true character and integrity.

Here’s some advice OP, I would definitely get talking with a lawyer just in case he still doesn’t send the gun over. I would also be telling more people about this, local gun boards ect.

I learned somewhat late in life that there are people who will smile, shake your hand, communicate with utmost sincerity ...and then turn on a dime and show you they lack integrity or honor. Reading all of this highlights the same behaviors common in a very few people I have known and could not understand. They don't see lies, deception, as wrong, and are genuinely confused by the outrage they engender. I don't know if this applies to the subject of this thread, but for my part further confirms my education about a small percentage of human beings.

If you get a sickening feeling in your gut that something is wrong, trust this, it will rarely be wrong.

Someone else sent him a money order and ffl information before 5/2/19 and is in the same situation. Someone else sent him payment/ffl after my check cleared on 5/13/19 and he cashed that one, that person is in the same situation. Could still be others.
The timeline is factual.
I hope I receive the gun soon.
I hope I win the lottery.
I hope I live long and am healthy till the end.
I hope my horoscope comes true.

Well you would never know it from the now closed thread over on the CB forum.

I swear, if it were me I would demand a full and immediate refund. I would not do business with that person!
Moderator closed it on CB. Why? I can read between the lines there.
I would like to demand some things but it is hard if you can't get in contact and the demands would probably be ignored. Legal disputes cost money/time with the one with the most money winning more than losing.

Small claims seems to be the best option. Problem is if you get a judgement, you still have to collect on it. I'd get a lawyer involved, sue the guy for cost of the gun, shipping FFL fees and your attorney fees. No way would I drop it, on principle alone! Best of luck to you no matter what.

Definitely will not quit until I receive it.

I could just say WOW!!! WOW!!! Being me, I cannot leave it at that. How unfortunate a situation for the OP and how fortunate for those who might ever wonder about the integrity of Mr. Ross.

I too was affected by the flood of ‘19, Big Muddy rolls right by my doorstep as it happens (not literally unless we’re talking about my doorstep at work). Coincidence had me tracking river levels during the OP’s time frame because at a certain level work is cut off from the rest of civilization, becoming an island with no way out except helicopter, boat, or a treacherous ford on a sealcoat road. All of that boils down to overtime for me which amounts to 24/7 pay with time and a half after 40 hours. Quick math, I earned $10,000 in OT in 2 weeks. Damn right I kept track of flooding!

The OP’s saga seemed to begin in earnest on May 3rd. That date sticks out as the day after the Governor stopped in by boat to visit and observe damage from an all-time record crest (22.7’). That same crest would have continued South to St. Louis where it hit a few days later. Where was John Ross? Waiting on a check, not assisting his friend in fending off the Walking Dead.

The river stayed high though, above major flood level for longer than any time in recorded history, and there were two historic crests a month apart with the second recorded on June 2nd. That too reached St. Louis mere days later but receded after just a few days. Where was John Ross? Well, perhaps he was assisting a friend with this second, lesser flood but then by June 8th the worst would have been over. 11 more days before he re-emerged? He left his vehicle there? Where? In the water?

I’m finding little that rings true with Mr. Ross’ story. I also took exception to the treatment given the OP on CB’s forum. No one really wins on this one even if this missile launcher is the bees knees.

Below are screenshots I captured from the NWS Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service website during the OP’s time frame. https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=dvn&gage=rcki2

This is how we drove in to work April 29th for the beginning of an 8 1/2 day camp out.

April 30, 2019 crest was expected to be below the record by several tenths of a foot. Mr. Ross should already have been securing that house!

May 2, 2019 (all-time record). Mr. Ross is still at home and touching base.

May 27, 2019 rising for second crest after falling below Major Flood Stage and this second crest was unexpected the week before (less than 5% chance). Mr. Ross would have had a solid couple weeks to drive home and eat a sandwich, make a few phone calls, but didn’t.

June 2, 2019 day of second crest, a full foot+ below May 2, 2019 crest. Mr. Ross claims later to have been marooned despite opportunity between crests to leave.

14.61’ observed on June 20, 2019 (below flood stage completely), the day Mr. Ross began explaining away his month long absence from a truck stop (where his helicopter landed?)

On a personal note, I do hope the OP is wildly pleased with the new hand cannon when it arrives (and I’m assuming with fingers crossed).

I wish CNN had reporters like you guys, as the follow up of stories, would at least, be covered by all bases! Lesson here, the internet is pretty unforgiving, and Ross should learn communication skills, pretty quick, if he wants to keep selling guns. Hope you enjoy this problem gun, when you receive it, as there will be alot of scars, and forgiving, to take place, after this is over.

Same. They seem a little tightly wound. Especially the long winded fella.

I agree. I believe that that individual is a Bishop in the Church of the Handloader. LOL!

I also read the other forum, doubt I ever go back. After posting the cashed check and correspondence they still support that he couldn't answer his cell, post to a forum, or answer an email.

I have an account on that forum, had it for I think 3 or 4 years. I have maybe 3 posts total. When I go there it is just to browse around. I had a question on a load and found the answer I was looking for using search.

My lack of participation on that forum is simply due to the fact that I haven't had a need to post there. I know that I can get on the nerves of some people here on THR but basically when we together we can find a solution to just about everything that is common. There are only so many minutes in a day. So If I were to place a post on the other forum like this one I would probably be treated like the OP here even though I have been a member for several years. The chances of me now becoming a regular there are greatly reduced, not that I'm the center of all knowledge, but just saying.

True confession. I got kicked off of another well traveled firearms forum for questioning the value of a thread there that literally had everyone in a state of suspended animation. I didn't insult anyone, I didn't make anything up, I just questioned the value of a thread. I had over a 1000 posts there. The reason I got the boot was the OP in that thread had a lot of allies, I had only a few. I didn't protest this and I hold no malice, it is one of 100s of forums out there. I bunch of regulars here post there btw. I think we tend to take chit chat forums a bit too seriously sometimes. Overall we are all good people, we need to keep that in mind.

This reminds me of a similar situation with a gentleman named ‘Mike at mag arms’. If you had a sig PE57 or AMT parts kit, you’d know who I’m talking about.

I’m weary of these paying upfront situations because of it

I've found this to be true on many of these types of forums, whether it's a well known gun writer, gun smith, custom gunmaker, or even a forum moderator. It's like they walk on water to some folks and they can never do wrong, and folks that idolize these types of folks don't take it kindly when their image of their hero challenged. Like many bird-dog and hound breeders, many gun writers and gun aficionados, have not only a high opinion of themselves and their products, but also of their opinions, i.e., " How dare you challenge me?". Their narcissism makes them believe they are above the rest of us....something Mr. Ross's response on the other forum clearly shows. Funny thing is, many of them have financial problems, Marital problems, and are prone to alcohol and other addictions, along with other issues, just as commonly as the rest of us. Many times these things are ignored because of the respect for what they do, and not from what they are. Again, me thinks there is more to this story that stinks than just floodwaters.

I got burned pretty bad by a dealer in CO once. Paid 2K for a shotgun and got a piece of junk. Sent it back the day I got it.

After that experience I would do this.

Send him a certified letter to this effect.

If by a certain date if I haven't received the firearm I paid for I will initiate these actions.
1) I will contact the AG in your state and file a fraud claim.
2) I will contact my bank and file a fraud claim (assuming you paid with a card). Always use a card for purchases like this.

That got that dealer's attention real fast. He cussed me out over the phone and threatened to sue me. I just said you know how to fix this and he did. He credited my account on the drop dead day.

I am selling 4 wheeler atv. So dealer tells me me i have a full price offer/purchase agreement. All i have to do is bring them the title. What if they sent me the money and asked me to bring title and i ghosted them for more than 6 weeks? I would find myself in court having to provide an extremely detailed explanation of whereabouts and why. If i gave them some un detailed explanation they would crush me with the actual facts.
Have i received any response from jr who has been home and posting on fb yet again; no. He was home saturday june 22nd for sure as he signed a certified letter only requesting gun be sent on receipt. Let the excuses begin or most likely silence.
If thread wasnt closed by mod on CB i would post it there too.

Do i really want some excuses from jr; no. Just a tracking no!
He still hasn’t responded to the pm sent from this website so have to conclude he doesn’t post here anymore. He also hasn’t responed to texts, phone, email or certified letters!
How hard is it to box something that weighs 4lbs up and to send it? With driving no more than 30 mins but if extremely slow 1 hr. Got to be more to the story. If i get details i will post them if possible. BS continues...
