I have found a John Tann safe but can't find any info on it. The seller told me the model number is 5295 and it has a number on the plate inside the safe that reads "11003". The seller wants $3,000 for it and says that it is a TL30 that is "protected on all sides". I asked him if that meant it was a TL30x6 but I don't think he knew what I meant. Can anyone provide any details on this safe? Is the safe worth $3,000? Thanks fellas!

If you are looking at a high end burglary rated safe, you should really enlist the assitance of a local safe tech. These types of safes are very expensive to drill open if they fail. The value would depend on the condition of the safe, whatever work would need to be done to ensure it is usable, and the expenses involved in moving it.

It's not much different than having a mechanic look at a used car to determine its value to you.

Thank you for the advice! I will have it checked out. Can you tell me if it is worth my time? Would like to know the size of it as well. do you have a way for me to find that out? The pics provided are hard to judge the size. Going to use it for my gun safe! Thank you for your time!

Also have a ISM 5920 TL30x6 that I'm looking at and it's owned by a safe tech. Looks brand new he says and he wants $3,995 for it. What do you think as far price versus value? I know they make really good safes. Thank you for your advice!

It is fairly common practice to make the model number reflect the dimensions of the safe. Depending on manufacturer, this could be the internal or external height and width.

Aside from a model number, there should also be a name. For example, the ISM should be a Treasury. The Tann will also have a name. This will narrow down when the safe was built, and thus it's modern day value.
