...and apparently to access the editorial online, you have to PAY for an ONLINE subscription...! Even IF you subscribe to the paper itself! I don't, but I almost wish I did so I could call them and cancel it today!
Well, I can give you the "cliff's notes" of it:
Title of editorial is "Restrictions were put in place for sensible reasons."
They open up: "Members of the state GA often have an extraordinary talent for taking a bad idea and making it even worse."
They speak of a bill that made it out of the Judiciary Committee to allow CCW in state parks. Something they say is prohibited "for good reason" under law.
They go on to whine that it was amended to allow carry in state and local government property, saying that if it passes that TN residents will be able to carry "pretty much anywhere in the state." (Must not have noticed all the alcohol-serving eateries out there...) Except for schools but "some lawmakers are confident that too, will be lifted in time." (the horror!)
Yadda yadda....CCWers are not Jack Bauer, Will you feel safer with people packing heat at little league games, parks, and commission meetings? - et cetera.

The first sentence into today's (Sunday) editorial and I can see what you think of Concealed Carry in general - a "bad idea."
So, seeing as how it's not been a bad enough idea to do away with (in TN or ANY other state that has it,) pray tell WHAT are these sensible reasons to prohibit CCW in parks or government buildings - or schools for that matter?
Anyone should have enough sense to know that the police can't and don't appear out of thin air to come to your rescue the INSTANT you need them!
God knows they didn't at Virginia Tech. And THAT was a place with a sizeable number of armed police officers ON CAMPUS! So, what exactly is the ratio of park rangers per visitor at most TN parks these days? One per fifty? One per one hundred?
The GA is trying to DO the sensible thing here. If a person is truly "on their own" (and thus responsible for their OWN self-defense) anywhere, it's a state park!
To answer your question - I *WOULD* feel safer if my friends and neighbors were carrying guns at a school function, park, or anywhere.
If YOU wouldn't - then I think you need to find yourself some better friends and neighbors. Contrary to "popular" belief, just owning or even CARRYING a gun does not transform someone into a blood-thirsty maniacal killer with no self-control!
