My New Year's resolution is to "SPEAK UP!"

I think the reason our country is in the condition it is, is because we, the hard working, law abiding people, don't speak up when things are not right!

Speak up! When someone else in being done wrong, treated poorly and most importantly when a "TYPE A" personality is spewing his/her stupidity. Speak up! and set the record straight, help those who cannot or will not help themselves.

I read in the general discussion section earlier today the sticky post "You are not a guilty criminal -- stop acting like it!"
I took it to heart.

I went on my quest to Dick's to order a Stevens 200 in 30-06 as my Christmas present to me. I normally avoid Dicks and buy from a gun shop but my lovely bride gave me a big gift certificate to Dicks for Christmas. Of course the clerk asked me all the stupid questions and then said he would call the distributor and see if the rifle was available. Getting this rifle from dicks will be a long, hard, slog.

So then I thought I would go to China Mart and check out their selection of 30-06 ammo and the availability of federal 223 100 packs. As I walked up to the ammo cabinet I heard the "Sporting Goods Supervisor" telling a nice timid lady in her 50's that the ammo she just bought could not be returned because of strict "Federal Regulations". She had asked for 30-06 180gr Remington core-lokt and was given 300 winmag instead. She was ready to leave without the 30-06 ammo and with the 300winmag.

So I spoke up and told the "Sporting Goods Manager" that I had never herd of this "strict federal regulation" and could he show it to me. So he called the store manager and they managed to complete the return. They then told the lady that they had no 180gr 30-06, and she was ready to leave when I said you have plenty of 180gr 30-06 Winchester Super X, which is what I am waiting to buy. She said her husband really wanted Remington to which the "Sporting Goods Manager" replied all 30-06 ammo is the same just different labels. I told the lady there are many different types and it really depends on the intended use. She called her husband and then bought the Super X 180gr soft points I was buying.

So then it was my turn to check out, 5 boxes of federal 223 100packs, 20rds of 30-06 and a brick of 22s. The store manager said that's a lot of ammo you must be going hunting? I said "no". Then the nice lady said; sure, I bet you are going hunting, right? As I contemplated my answer I thought about how upset both of them would be if they knew I was carrying my S&W CS-45 and that I was stocking up on 223 while I could still buy it (Pre-Obama).

Then I responded with; I wish I were going to a place where I needed 500rds of 223, 500rds of 22s and 20rds of 30-06 to hunt, I would be in heaven. But no, gun season has been over in our state for a few weeks. I am buying the ammo because I can.

The Sporting Goods manager said he needed to see my ID to make sure I was over 21, so you know where that went.

Sorry this post is too long already.

What are we afraid of?
Speak Up! Every Day!

Your post was fine up until this:
I thought about how upset both of them would be if they knew ... that I was stocking up on 223 while I could still buy it (Pre-Obama).
Speaking nonsense isn't going to help the cause one bit.

Yeah, that part might have been a little over-the-top.

But, in all fairness, Ted Kennedy did want to pass a bill that would do that, but here is not the place for such a discussion.

My crystal ball is broken, can you help me?

I guess my crystal ball does not work as well as yours. I never thought we would have an AWB, but it happened. Fool me once........
So since you seem so sure of the future, you probably aren't taking any action to prepare for the next 8 years? Well I'm not that good at guessing someone else's definition of "Common Sense Gun Laws", six rounds in a revolver, registered gun, micro stamped rounds, "cigarette high" taxes on ammo, sounds like common sense to me. That's OK, won't be that expensive, you only need to have 6 rounds for self defense right, its just common sense. I will do the Boy Scout thing, be prepared, and have options.

You guys must be millionaires, predicting the future, buying all those pre-ban items that have demanded a premium since the expiration of the last AWB.

Good idea

This is a good resolution, and not just for gun-related topics.

As it turns out, I started doing this earlier tonight (maybe a sign of old age). I went to Best Buy and had a useless clerk try to sell me the most expensive version of an item even though he could not cite a single benefit over the cheaper version (other than increasing sales).

Then, four different people tried to cut into the checkout line at four different times. I called them all on it. If their parents didn't raise them right, I'm more than happy to show them the errors of their ways.

This is drifting into politics, which is a no-no.

If the OP wants to put some sort of "Speak out!" activism program together, organize the thoughts, omit the vignettes and sob stories, and restart in the Activism forum.
