I ordered a Zanotti Armor gun safe back in July. I got the Z-II 5' in the 30 long gun configuration. It arrived yesterday, and today I was able to get it put together. All things considered I'm very happy with the safe (OK, OK CBF900, it's really an RSC).

The only problems I had were that I goofed in drilling the holes for the lag bolts in the concrete, and that's not anything I can blame on the safe. The one problem that I can blame on them is that one of the pins to hold the left side panel to the base just would not go in.

It took about 2.5 hours including drilling the holes in the concrete floor of the garage.

Pics to follow. Mrs Sumpnz just called and wanted me to bring our 3 year old to look at a Christmas tree in town.

Any moisture concerns with a garage installation? Saw where another one was in the garage also, so I guess this is common practice.

Wish I could move up to a nicer safe such as yours. Enjoy!

wow, it took that long to get it shipped to you? Is that normal for that company? I am looking at possibly buying the Dakota Safe Co. Model. Did you compare the two to get a feel for the better one and if you did, did you find anything out?

These break-down RSCs come with a small hole for an appliance such as a goldenrod to help with humidity concerns. There's nothing included to help with insulation, though.

The combination isn't meant to be changed by the user, which I find suprising and annoying, although it does appear that if the back of the door was disassembled, the combination could be changed.

I'm sure the lead time is dependant upon how many orders have been placed - it did take about two months to get the one I'd ordered.

Dragging that damned door up the stairs made me very happy I'd chosen a break-down model. I'll be installing an honest-to-goodness safe one of these days, but not right now.

To be effective, the Golden Rod requirements include:
1. The rod must placed near the bottom of the safe.
2. The rod must be mounted horizontally.
3. The safe must have vents or loose fitting doors.
Because this "dehumidifier" is actually just a heater, it depends on convective air circulation.

Surely the safe accommodates the above since it recommends the Golden Rod as an accessory?

I've just starting to look at better safes. So far, I've gotten by with a no-name, scratch-n-dent, 8-gun, lock box which is mounted to an interior wall. A larger unit would be nice, but I would hope to keep it inside.

A friend of mine built a new house with a small concealed room for his armory. Nice set up that you'd never guess was even there. But I'm not planning to build a house anytime soon.

Pics still pending location of the cable to download from the camera.

I did not compare to the Dakota safe. Didn't even know much about them. THe Zanotti was only break-down safe I was able to find at the time that was still in production. There were one or two others that I vaguely recall that had ceased production. But the Zanotti had such univerally good reviews that I thought it was a good bet. So far that's proven correct.

As far as moisture, I'll eventually install either a goldenrod or a 60watt light bulb, which I believe does the same thing. At any rate, living in central WA its usually pretty dry. It's raining today (and yesterday), but typically is pretty arid here.

Sorry CB900F. Got the right letters, just in the wrong order.

I was told of the lead time when I placed the order. They're just that busy right now. Good for them.
