I spent 30 minutes separating unfired "brass" (copper washed steel), bullets and powder from 100 rounds of unfired milsurp 7.62x54r. I'm not sure why I did it but I am looking for a project. I also just ordered a 3 die set for the Mosin. I do have 20 rounds of fired PPU BRASS cases sitting here and just purchased a three die Lee set.

There are a few projects that I am interested in. I've watched an interesting video last night that shows how to do a conversion on the primers:

I own a collectible Mosin PU Sniper and would like to stop running corrosive primers through it. I also have a couple of punishing sawed-off Mosins that could stand to have lighter loads in them. I've seen a few people say that they have dumped the powder and reduced it by 10% and reused it.

I have not slugged my PU Sniper yet but plan on doing it soon and ordering a bullet mold so I can do some casting.

So, any suggestions on some interesting projects? I'm very interested to hear what you guys have to say.

I would build a sweet display rack for all of those lol, something Russian flavored.

Get a bunch of PPU brass from Grafs and don't even worry about those nasty primers in the good rifle. I would just use up the corrosive ones in a "lesser" rifle. Nothing better than shooting clean loads from the mosin... I hate cleaning up the corrosive stuff lol.

I have always had good luck with cast bullets in just about every Mosin and mil surp I have gotten to play with. NOE makes a 202 GC mold that I really like. Accuracy is very good, and I would like to try to get a deer with it next season.

Reduced loads are always fun to play with as well out of those rifles. Red dot and unique loads under cast have been entertaining, and something like that may be worth a shot out of those shorter barrel models.

I followed those instructions and after a lot of time and effort I didn't have very good results. With what you have invested in rifles get some reusable brass, a mold and have fun.

+1 on the notion of starting with new/once fired brass. The primer is the source of the 'corrosive' in corrosive surplus. And since most all surplus is Berdan primed you can't just punch out the primer and insert a Boxer.

I'd have just shot up the surplus - lol

Good luck with the project.
